Hemochromatosis is defined as abnormal deposition of iron in body organs which can cause organ dysfunction. The most commonly affected organs are the liver, heart, endocrine glands, pancreas, joints and skin with manifestations of cirrhosis, cardiomyopathy, hypogonadism, endocrinopathies, diabetes mellitus, arthropathy, skin pigmentation, and increased risk of liver cancer in cirrhotic patients.

Valproic acid (VPA) and warfarin are commonly prescribed for patients with epilepsy and concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF). When VPA and warfarin are prescribed together, clinically important interactions may occur. VPA may replace warfarin from the protein binding sites and result in an abnormally increased anticoagulation effect.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common type of cardiac rhythm disturbance encountered in clinical practice, is associated with substantially increased morbidity and mortality. Aggregating evidence demonstrates that abnormal cardiovascular development is involved in the pathogenesis of AF.

The electrocardiogram (ECG), introduced into clinical practice more than 100 years ago by Einthoven, constitutes a lineal recording of the heart’s electrical activity that occurs successively over time. An atrial depolarisation wave (P wave), a ventricular depolarisation wave (QRS complex) and a ventricular repolarisation wave (T wave) are successively recorded for each cardiac cycle (Figures 1A–C). As these different waves are recorded from different sites (leads) the morphology varies (Figure 2).Nevertheless, the sequence is always P–QRS–T.

Left Atrial Abnormality & 1st degree AV Block-KH Frank G.Yanowitz, M.D. The P-wave is notched, wider than 0.12s, and has a prominent negative (posterior) component in V1 - all criter for left atrial abnormality or enlargement (LAE). The PR interval 0.20s. Minor ST-T wave abnormalities are also present.
