Since its discovery in 1989, hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has become a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide with 14.7% prevalence in Egypt. Autoimmune endocrine disorders are considered one of the extrahepatic manifestations of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. HCV could trigger cytokines release due to local inflammation. Interleukin 17 a (IL17a) and Interferon gamma (IFNγ) play an important role in pathogenesis of autoimmune disease. Herein, we tried to assess the serum levels of IL17a and IFN-gamma in cirrhotic HCV infected patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. Serum samples were collected from 183 cirrhotic HCV infected patients.

The existence of multiple autoimmune disorders in diabetics may indicate underlying primary defects of immune regulation. The study aims at estimation of defects of CD4+ CD25+high cells among diabetic children with multiple autoimmune manifestations, and identification of disease characteristics in those children. Twenty-two cases with type 1 diabetes associated with other autoimmune diseases were recruited from the Diabetic Endocrine and Metabolic Pediatric Unit (DEMPU), Cairo University along with twenty-one normal subjects matched for age and sex as a control group.

In the diffuse forms of hyperpigmentation, the darkening of the skin may be of equal intensity over the entire body or may be accentuated in sun-exposed areas. The causes of diffuse hyperpigmentation can be divided into four major groups—endocrine, metabolic, autoimmune, and drugs. The endocrinopathies that frequently have associated hyperpigmentation include Addison's disease, Nelson syndrome, and ectopic ACTH syndrome. In these diseases, the increased pigmentation is diffuse but is accentuated in the palmar creases, sites of friction, scars, and the oral mucosa.
