Melanoma is the most lethal form of skin cancer, with a worldwide increase in incidence. Despite the increased overall survival of metastatic melanoma patients given recent advances in targeted and immunotherapy, it still has a poor prognosis and available treatment options carry diverse severe side effects.

Xylan is a biopolymer readily available from forest resources. Various modification methods, including oxidation with sodium periodate, have been shown to facilitate the engineering applications of xylan. However, modification procedures are often optimized for semicrystalline high molecular weight polysaccharide cellulose rather than for lower molecular weight and amorphous polysaccharide xylan.

Vaginal administration is a promising route for the local treatment of infectious vaginal diseases since it can bypass the first-pass metabolism, drug interactions, and adverse effects. However, the commercial products currently available for topical vulvovaginal treatment have low acceptability and do not adequately explore this route.

Acceptance of new rice genotypes demanded by rice value chain depends on premium value of varieties that match consumer demands of regional preferences. High throughput prediction tools are not available to breeders to classify cooking and eating quality (CEQ) ideotypes and to capture texture of varieties.

The Aspergillus niger genome contains a large repertoire of genes encoding carbohydrate active enzymes (CAZymes) that are targeted to plant polysaccharide degradation enabling A. niger to grow on a wide range of plant biomass substrates. Which genes need to be activated in certain environmental conditions depends on the composition of the available substrate

Streptococcus salivarius is an abundant isolate of the human oral microbiota. Since both pH and glucose availability fluctuate frequently in the oral cavity, the goal of this study was to investigate regulation by CodY, a conserved pleiotropic regulator of Gram positive bacteria, in response to these two signals. The chemostat culture system was employed to precisely control the growth parameters, and the transcriptomes of wild-type S. salivarius 57.I and its CodY-null derivative (ΔcodY) grown at pH 7 and 5.5, with limited and excessive glucose supply were determined.

To improve our understanding about the physiological mechanism of grain yield reduction at anthesis, three spring wheat genotypes [L1 (advanced line), L2 (Vorobey) and L3 (Punjab-11)] having contrasting yield potential under drought in field were investigated under controlled greenhouse conditions, drought stress was imposed at anthesis stage by withholding irrigation until all plant available water was depleted, while wellwatered control plants were kept at 95% pot water holding capacity.

The main findings of the study were that (i) gas production and methane content of the gas were reduced when ensiled cassava root replaced the dried cassava root as a carbohydrate source, and when cassava leaf meal replaced water spinach meal as a protein source; (ii) Adding brewers’ grains at 5% dry matter (DM) to the diet of ensiled cassava root supplemented with either cassava foliage or water spinach as the main protein source increased DM feed intake...

Onion (Allium cepa) also known as bulb onion or common onion, is a vegetable crop that belongs to family Amaryllidaceae and the most widely cultivated species of genus Allium. Onion is an important horticultural commodity grown worldwide for their culinary purposes and medicinal values. Indian onions are famous for their pungency and are available round the year. One cup of chopped onion contains approximately 64 calories, 15gm of carbohydrate, 0 gm of fat, 0 gm of sugar, 2gm of protein and10 percent or more of the daily value for vitamin c, vit-B-6.

Field bean also known as Dolichos lablab beans is one of the important legume crops grown widely in Southern Karnataka. It is rich in carbohydrate, protein, fat, and crude fiber. Fresh beans are a favoured vegetable of the people of this region. But, its availability is being seasonal, attempts are made to preserve its freshness for longer periods. The storage life of vegetables and fruits depends on their respiration rates.

Rice is the major food of more than 3 billion people representing the major carbohydrate and even protein source not only in South East Asia but also in some part of Africa .During the thousands of years since its domestication, Asia rice has been cultivated under significantly diverse agro-ecosystems to meet different human demands. As a consequence, many rice varieties with different characteristics have arisen under natural and human selection. In bastar plateau regions several land races of red rice are available which is having good yield potential.

Farmed ruminants form a very large portion of total anthropogenic methane emissions globally. Methanogens present in ruminal flora primarily uses Hydrogen [H] produced during anaerobic carbohydrate fermentation. Ruminal microflora can convert plant fiber unavailable for humans into microbial protein available for absorption for ruminants with biological value 70.

In fruit production, the effects of flowering and fruiting, which modify source-sink relationships, cannot be overlooked and is even more true in tropical fruit production, where the flowering and fruiting phases exceed six months at the individual tree scale. More specifically, little is known about the effects of source/sink balance, and the associated changes in carbon export rate from leaves and leaf carbohydrate concentration, like the ones resulting from the presence of developing fruits, on leaf nitrogen and photosynthetic capacity within the crown of field-growing trees.

The crude protein content ranged between 13.86% and 19.17% with the highest protein was found in shinghi (H. fossilis) and lowest in kholisha (C. fasciata). Likewise, the lipid content varied from 1.18% (H. fossilis) to 5.21% (B. dario). Moisture content shows a discrepancy from 72.65% (P. sophore) to 79.71% (C. punctatus). Other nutrients such as carbohydrate content varies from 1.05% (N. chitala) to 4.95% (A. testudineus) whereas, the ash content varied from 1.38% (C. batrachus) to 4.35% (P. ticto).

The grape berry is considered a sink for primary key metabolites and relies on the use of available carbohydrates produced by photosynthesis to support its growth and development. The berry size and quality at the time of harvest mainly depends on water, sugars such as glucose, fructose and sucrose, organic acids (mainly malic and tartaric acids), amino acids (arginine, proline and glutamic acid), phenolic compounds (anthocyanins, flavonoids and tannins) and aroma precursor.

Diet has a very prominent role in management of renal patients. Specific nutrients particularly proteins, carbohydrate, sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphorus intake is quite detrimental. Patients on Keto- Analogues have to be very careful regarding their protein restrictions similarly during oedema fluid and sodium restrictions need to be analysed. Therefore role of food and diet has now been kept on fore fronts in various therapeutic approaches.

The present study explored the traditional Indian fermented food samples for potential probiotic strains with superior probiotic properties to that of commercially available strain. A total of 102 food samples were collected aseptically and 200 isolates were purified using MRS media. 132 were identified as Gram-positive bacteria and 43 were identified as yeast cultures. On the basis of morphological and biochemical properties, 120 isolates were provisionally identified as Lactobacillus spp.
