The bioefficacy of antagonist and botanical extract were tested in vitro against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ricini causing wilt of castor. Trichoderma harzianum (72.22%), T. viride (70.37%) and Pseudomonas fluorescens appeared potent antagonist against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ricini followed by T. faciculatum, T. longibrachyatum and Bacillus subtilis. Among the botanical, the extract of turmeric rhizome was effective in inhibiting mycelial growth 42.22 Per cent followed by 36.67 per cent inhibition by leaves extract of marigold.

These chitinase-producing bacterial strains were tested for antagonistic activity against the causal agent of bulb and stem rots of lilies, Fusarium oxysporum, and the results indicated antifungal activity of the four strains HP02, VRQ9, HM03, and GL10. The HP02 strain had the highest level of chitinase activity and was capable of being antagonistic to Fusarium oxysporum. Based on morphological and biochemical characteristics, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis of this sequence along with sequences from GenBank, HP02 was identified as Bacillus subtilis.

The knowledge concerning the behavior of these Bacilli as antagonists and genetic analysis is essential for their effective use and the commercialization. The present study was focused on the analysis of the genetic diversity of rhizobacterial isolates of Bacillus using PCR based RAPD technique and selection of best biocontrol antifungal Bacillus strain with aflatoxin producing Aspergillus by antagonism on PDA medium. About 16 different strains of bacteria were isolated from healthy and infested rhizosphere of groundnut using N-agar medium.

Foot rot of tomato is an important disease which causes severe loss in tomato production. The present study was carried out to evaluate five bioagents and six fungicides against Sclerotium rolfsii. Among the five antagonists tested the maximum inhibition was observed in Trichoderma virens (67%) and contrarily, no inhibition was observed in Bacillus subtilis. Six fungicides viz., carbendazim, captan, tebuconozole, copper oxychloride, hexaconozole and Tebuconazole +Trifloxytrobin at different concentrations (50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 500 ppm), were tested.

Due to climate change, abiotic and biotic stresses like soil salinity, drought, pH, high temperature and plant fungal diseases are major threat for agriculture production and which reduces the growing demand of food of the population. To cope the adverse effect of such stresses, use of wide variety of synthetic chemical fertilizers cause serious hazardous effects on environment, soil, water and human health. Use of microorganisms as a bioinoculants is a new green eco-friendly technology for sustainable agriculture production and can lessen the effect of these stresses.

Soil has enormous potential antagonistic mechanism, which have positive influence on plant growth and health. Among the microbes, Bacillus subtilis an endospore forming, gram positive bacteria, plays a major role in biocontrol and PGPR activities. Among the different mechanisms of biocontrol, Induced systemic resistance is the one which induces the resistance by activating the defence related enzymes and increasing the growth parameters.
