Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is an uncommon pyogenic infection, localized between the dura mater and vertebral periosteum, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. SEA development is connected with medical comorbidities and risk factors facilitating bacterial dissemination; multiple factors are believed to play a role, including aging, increased alcohol abuse, use of intravenous drugs, a greater prevalence of medical comorbidities, and increased rates of spinal surgery that furthers iatrogenic spinal infection.

Celecoxib for management of refractory back pain secondary to vertebral osteomyelitis: A case report
Back pain is the most common symptom of vertebral osteomyelitis and can be difficult to manage. Pain may persist despite appropriate antibiotic medications and may be refractory to common analgesic treatments. We present a case of a 53-year-old man with acute onset severe low back pain. Clinical evaluation and diagnostic workup were consistent with L1 osteomyelitis.

Owing to the aging population, fragility fractures of the pelvis are occurring more frequently. Fixation of the fracture and stabilization of the pelvic ring usually provide good clinical results. A case of distal sacral nerve roots severed by a fragility fracture of the sacrum is presented.

A right bundle branch block (RBBB) is rarely found in patients with myocardial infarction (MI). In addition, back pain is an atypical complaint in patients with angina. It is a challenge for clinicians to recognize and carefully assess a patient’s complaints even if they are admitted for pain that is “atypical” of MI. When ECG shows changes, clinicians need to pay attention to a tricky, hidden, and life-threatening occlusion of the coronary artery.

Undesired intrathecal injections represent an important subset of medical errors, albeit rare. Clinical effects depend on the type and concentration of drug(s) injected. Here we report on the case of a healthy woman with persistent low back pain, treated with a paravertebral injection of lidocaine, thiocolchicoside, and l-acetylcarnitine at an orthopedic practice.

As science and technology has developed, the manner by which drugs can be delivered has grown. Medicines may be taken orally, applied as topical pastes, creams or oils, patches or administered by direct injection to the body. This research explores an alternative method for the delivery of therapeutic compounds to the body. The basis of the study involves the application of traditional medicinal compounds used to cure minor neck and back pains through transdermal topical application, using a textile substrate as the carrier.
