This cross-sectional study sought to determine the neck-shoulder stiffness/low back pain (NSS/LBP) comorbidity rate in a Japanese community population and to compare the quality of life (QOL) in individuals with comorbid NSS/LBP, asymptomatic individuals, and those with symptoms of NSS or LBP alone.

In a prior randomized trial, we demonstrated that participants receiving spinal manipulative therapy at a pain-sensitive segment instead of a stiff segment experienced increased mechanical pressure pain thresholds. We hypothesized that the targeted segment mediated this increase through a segment-dependent neurophysiological reflective pathway.

Lumbar traction is a traditional treatment modality for chronic low back pain (CLBP) in many countries. However, its effectiveness has not been demonstrated in clinical practice because of the following: (1) the lack of in vivo biomechanical confirmation of the mechanism of lumbar traction that occurs at the lumbar spine; (2) the lack of a precise delivery system for traction force and, subsequently, the lack of reproducibility; and (3) few randomized controlled trials proving its effectiveness and utility.

The prevalence of low back pain is rising among the young adult population. Altered lumbar muscle tone was suggested to be associated with underlying pathologies and symptoms. To date, there is minimum information available on the repeatability of lumbar spine muscle mechanical properties in the young adults who experienced low back pain.

Musculoskeletal disorders can reduce the quality of life and work capacity. The study assessed handgrip strength (HGS) in relation to low back pain and arthralgia in Kurdish men. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using data from Ravansar non-communicable diseases (RaNCD) cohort study on 2164 men aged 35–65 years. HGS was measured using a hand-held hydraulic handgrip dynamometer.

A 3 month-old non-descript male pup was presented to the small animal surgery outpatient unit at madras veterinary college with a history of road traffic accident a day back. Upon presentation the dog was ambulatory, dull, and nonresponsive and exhibited a stiff gait and a hunched posture. On auscultation, muffled heart sounds were observed and dysnea was noticed due to reduction of tidal volume. The mucous membrane was pink and moist and the capillary refill time was less than 2 seconds.

The first symptoms of this disease are usually a low back pain with its peak at night and in the morning and morning stiffness, which can last for hours. Both symptoms get better with exercise, back pain can worsen with inactivity. Some patients show only a partial involvement of the spine, in others the whole spine is involved. The physician always should examine the patient´s back by patting it gently with one fist, starting at the cervical spine all the way down to the sacrum, asking the patient, if and which part of the spine is painful during this...

General symptoms include morning stiffness of more than 60 minutes, fatigue, sometimes even slightly elevated temperature, but the main initial symptom is low back pain at night and in the morning. All patients with low back pain should be questioned about a positive family history concerning rheumatic diseases, as the risk of developing this illness is higher in patients where family members already have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis.

Other Causes of Neck Pain Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (Chap. 314) of the cervical apophyseal joints produces neck pain, stiffness, and limitation of motion. In advanced RA, synovitis of the atlantoaxial joint (C1-C2; Fig. 16-2) may damage the transverse ligament of the atlas, producing forward displacement of the atlas on the axis (atlantoaxial subluxation). Radiologic evidence of atlantoaxial subluxation occurs in 30% of patients with RA. Not surprisingly, the degree of subluxation correlates with the severity of erosive disease.

Only basic selection parameters are included. To make the very best selection of a ball screw, the designer should specify such critical parameters as the load profile, the linear or rotational speed, the rates of acceleration and deceleration, the cycle rate, the environment, the required life, the lead accuracy, the stiffness, and any other special requirement. If in doubt, please consult an SKF ball screw specialist before placing an order.
