In the present study "Improving culture conditions for poly(3- hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) production by Bacillus sp. ND153, a bacterium isolated from a mangrove forest in Vietnam", we examined the variations in the compositions of the culture medium to optimize the conditions for PHBV production by Bacillus sp. ND153, a halotolerant bacterium strain isolated from a mangrove forest in Vietnam (Van-Thuoc et al. 2012).

Two novel chondroitinases, chondroitin ABC lyase (EC 4.2.2.4) and chondroitin AC lyase (EC 4.2.2.5), have been purified from Bacteroides stercoris HJ-15, which was isolated from human intestinal bacteria with glycosaminoglycan degrading enzymes. Chondroitin ABC lyase was purified to apparent homogeneity by a combination of QAE-cellulose, CM-Sephadex C-50, hydroxyapatite and Sephacryl S-300 column chromatography with a final specific activity of 45.7 lmolÆmin)1Æmg)1.

The osmoregulated periplasmic glucans (OPGs) produced byRhodobacter sphaeroides, a free-living organism, were isolated by trichloracetic acid treatment and gel permeation chromatography. Compounds obtained were characterized by compositional analysis, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance.R. sphaeroidespredominantly synthesizes acyclic glucan containing 18 glucose residues that canbe substituted by one to seven succinyl esters residues at the C6position of some of the glucose residues, and by one or two acetyl resi-dues....

Xanthomonas campestrispv.vitians is a Gram-negative plant-associated bacterium that acts as causative agent of bacterial leaf spot and headrot in lettuce. The lipopolysac-charide of this bacterium is suspected to be an important molecule for adhesion to and infection of the plants. The lipopolysaccharide has been isolated from the phenol phase and the O-specific chain characterized by compositional analysis, high fieldNMRandMALDI-TOFMS.

Trihaem cytochromec3 (also known as cytochrome c551.5 and cytochromec7 ) is isolated fromthe periplasmic space of Desulfuromonas acetoxidans, a sulfur-reducing bacterium. Thermodynamic and kinetic data for the trihaem cyto-chromec3are presented and discussed in the context of the possible physiological implications of its functional proper-ties with respect to the natural habitat of D. acetoxidans, namelyas a symbiontwithgreensulfurbacteriaworkingas a mini-sulfuretum.

We have isolated a minor soluble green-colored heme protein (GHP) from the purple sulfur bacterium, Halochromatium salexigens, which contains a c-type heme. A similar protein has also been observed in the purple bacteriaAllochromatium vinosumandRhodopseudomonas cryptolactis. This protein has wavelength maxima at 355, 420, and 540 nm and remains unchanged upon addition of sodium dithionite or potassium ferricyanide, indicating either an unusually low or high redox potential, respectively.

The O-polysaccharide (O-antigen) was obtained from the lipopolysaccharide of Proteus myxofaciens,aProteus strain producing copious amounts of slime, which was isolated from the gypsy moth larvae. The structure of the polysaccharide was studied by chemical analysis and 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, including 2D COSY, TOCSY, ROESY and H-detected 1 H, 13 CHMQC experiments.

Cold shock proteins (CSPs) form a family of highly conserved bacterial proteins capable of single-stranded nucleic acid binding. They are suggested to act as RNA chaperones during cold shock inhibiting the formation of RNA secondary structures, which are unfavourable for transcription and translation.

Catalytic antibodies capable of digesting crucial proteins of pathogenic bac-teria have long been sought for potential therapeutic use. Helicobacter pyloriurease plays a crucial role for the survival of this bacterium in the highly acidic conditions of human stomach. The HpU-9 monoclonal anti-body (mAb) raised againstH. pyloriurease recognized thea-subunit of the urease, but only slightly recognized theb-subunit. However, when isolated both the light and the heavy chains of this antibody were mostly bound to the b-subunit....

The core structure of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) isolated from a rough strain of the phytopathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syringaepv.phaseolicola, GSPB 711, was investigated by sugar and methylation analyses, Fourier transform ion-cyclotron resonance ESI MS, and one- and two-dimensional 1 H-, 13 C- and 31 P-NMR spectroscopy. Strong alkaline deacylation of the LPS resulted in two core-lipid A backbone undecasaccharide pentakisphos-phates in the ratio2.

Bacillary necrosis occurs very often in intensive farming of Tra catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in the Mekong delta. Causative bacterium was identified as Edwardsiella ictaluri. Diseased fish with typical focal necrosis in the liver, kidney and spleen were sampled from 17 fish farms in Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang and Ben Tre Province for bacterial isolation and identification. Among 97 isolates, 47 (48 %) were identified as E. ictaluri.
