The experiment was carried out on 72 healthy muscovy ducks starting at 28 days old to assess the effect of banana stems (Musa sapientum L) fermented with molasses, biochar and with or without vinasse on weight growth of muscovy duck (Cairina moschata). Four treatments and three replications made up a completely randomized design (CRD) of the experiment. Each batch is an experimental unit, each experimental unit consists of 6 muscovy ducks.

The research herein builds on the work of Rojek (2003) and further investigates the bioremediation of NOM wastes. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of selected white-rot fungi and yeast for the biodegradative removal of concentrated NOM from solution. The effectiveness of the white-rot fungus P. chrysosporium ATCC 34541 for the biological degradation of different batches of MIEXTM NOM concentrate and the effects of different characteristics of the NOM on the process and thus the resistance of the NOM to microbial removal were investigated.

Anionic and non-ionic surfactants have been detected in the influents to and effluents from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Linear alkylbenzene sulphonates (LAS) and alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO) are the most frequently detected anionic and non-ionic surfactants in urban wastewater. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of the presence of anionic and non-ionic surfactants in the influent to WWTPs on activated sludge processes.

Municipal wastewater treatment plants generally utilise biological activated sludge processes to remove organic compounds and nitrogen. The biological nitrogen removal (BNR) occurs in two steps, nitrification (ammonium removal) and denitrification (nitrates removal). This study focused on a medium-sized wastewater treatment plant (WTP) which experienced poor nitrification for years, mainly when the weather temperature drops.

In this study, the noncompetitive and competitive adsorption process of copper (II) and nickel (II) ions on the natural zeolite were examined in simulated wastewater in a batch system with respect to concentration, pH and temperature. Optimum pH values were found as 5,0 for adsorption of copper and nickel ions on the zeolite. The effect of initial concentration and ambient temperature on the yield of adsorption was examined at this pH value.

In this study, the performance of chitosan based semi-IPN nanocomposite hydrogels for the adsorptive removal of basic violet 14 (BV14) from aqueous solution has been explored. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to determine the effect of various parameters on BV14 adsorption, and optimum values were reported as pH of 8, the adsorbent dosage of 0.025 g, initial BV14 concentration of 5 mg L–1 and contact time of 90 min at a temperature of 25 °C.

This study reports the immobilization of a β-CGTase on glutaraldehyde pre-activated silica and its use to production of cyclodextrins in batch and continuous reactions. We were able tomodulate the cyclodextrin production (α-, β- and γ-CD) by immobilization and changing the reaction conditions.

Eco-friendly flocculants of alginic acid, NaHCO3 and CaCl2.2H2O with advantages of strong gelation characteristics were prepared for supporting the removal of phosphate in synthetic wastewater using CaO and Ca(OH)2 as precipitants. The effects of weight ratios of each component in flocculants, dosage of flocculants and initial phosphate concentration were investigated through batch of experiments.

Despite rapid developments in single cell sequencing, sample-specific batch effects, detection of cell multiplets, and experimental costs remain outstanding challenges. Here, we introduce Cell Hashing, where oligo-tagged antibodies against ubiquitously expressed surface proteins uniquely label cells from distinct samples, which can be subsequently pooled.

To fully utilize the power of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technologies for identifying cell lineages and bona fide transcriptional signals, it is necessary to combine data from multiple experiments. We present BERMUDA (Batch Effect ReMoval Using Deep Autoencoders), a novel transfer-learning-based method for batch effect correction in scRNA-seq data.

Cotton stalk (CS), cotton waste (CW), and cotton dust (CD), which are cotton wastes, were used as adsorbents to study the adsorption kinetics of methylene blue from aqueous solution. Kinetics of the batch adsorption experiment was investigated according to the pseudo-first order, the pseudo-second order, and the intraparticle diffusion models used commonly in the literature. The effects of the initial concentration, solution pH, and temperature on kinetic parameters (adsorption rate constant, initial adsorption rate, equilibrium adsorption capacity, etc.) were studied.

A magnetic Fe3O4 @ montmorillonite composite was prepared and used for the separation of lead and cadmium from aqueous solutions. For this purpose, magnetite (Fe3O4) was generated by co-precipitation of FeSO4 and FeCl3 onto montmorillonite. The effects of various experimental parameters such as pH of the solution, amount of sorbent, initial concentration of analytes, and contact time on the sorption efficiencies of lead and cadmium ions were investigated and optimized by applying a batch technique.

In this study, natural clinoptilolite was modified by saponin and Brij 35 surfactants to remove diethylstilbestrol (DES) from wastewater in batch and continuous systems. The optimum pH, amount of adsorbent, contact time, and temperature were 11, 10 g/L, 12 h, and 35°C, respectively, for the process. The equilibrium data agreed well with the Langmuir isotherm for natural clinoptilolite (NC), natural clinoptilolite modified by Brij 35 (NC-Brij), and natural clinoptilolite modified by saponin surfactants (NC-saponin) compared to other isotherms.

Poly(ethylene glycol) bis(methylimidazolium) di[bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide] was synthesized as an ionic liquid and impregnated onto chitosan. The removal of uranium(VI) ions from aqueous solution was investigated with batch sorption tests using ionic liquid impregnated chitosan. Response surface methodology based on 3 level Box– Behnken design was applied to analyze the effect of initial pH (4–6), initial concentration (20–60 mg L −1 ), contact time (15–105 min), and temperature (30–50°C) on the uptake capacity of uranium(VI).
