To address this issue, in this study, the authors have put forth a novel set of parameters that can be used to evaluate the reduction in stiffness of spans over time. The stiffness is a critical factor that determines its structural integrity, and it is essential to monitor any changes in this parameter over the lifespan of the bridge.

In a hydrostatic spindle of machine tools, the bearing structure parameters, lubrication characteristics and working conditions are factors affecting the spindle stiffness and the machining quality. Besides some known geometrical parameters and oil viscosity, other factors such as lubricant pressure and loading capacity need to be determined to find a feasible working condition for a machine tool.

In this paper, a computational approach using a combination of the upper bound theorem and the bubbleenhanced quadrilateral finite element (FEM-Qi6) is proposed to evaluate bearing capacity factors of strip footing in cohesive-frictional soil. The new element is built based on the quadrilateral element (Q4) by adding a pair of internal nodes to solve the volumetric locking phenomenon.

The curves were developed in a computational manner in terms of the notch stress intensity factors and based on the suitable failure concept of the maximum tangential stress (MTS) utilized frequently in the past by the author and his co-researchers for predicting mixed mode brittle fracture in extensive notched specimens.
