The present study on out planting performance of Ocimum basilicum in field plantation was undertaken to optimize the spacing required for achieving maximum yield and essential oil. Seeds collected locally were sown in a broadcast manner and transplanted later at seedling stage at different spacing viz., S1 (10 cm × 10 cm), S2 (10 cm × 20 cm), S3 (10 cm × 30 cm) and S4 (10 cm × 40 cm). Seeds were sown in well prepared nursery beds in March, 2018.

The experiment was conducted on PG 17 variety of garlic at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kapurthala farm during 2016-17. The cloves were planted both on beds and ridges at a spacing of 15 cm x 7.5 cm and 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm in a 25 sqm plot for each treatment in RBD with 3 replications. Ten bulbs were selected randomly from each treatment. Significant differences were observed for number of clover, bulb diameter, fresh weight and dry weight.

Of late, rice root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola has emerged as a major threat throughout the world due to its adoptable nature, broad host range and ability of causing potential yield loss. The losses caused by M. graminicola may vary from 16-80 %. The daignostic symptoms of root knot disease of rice are, stunted growth, yellowing, and gall formation on the roots of rice plants. The degree of symptom manifestation depends on several factors, viz., time of infection, age of the plants and load of inoculums.

Zinniae is an important flower specie cultivated in India as well as in Kashmir valley. An unusual disease outbreak was observed in the nursery beds of Zinniae elegans. During ascertaining the cause of the disease a new pathogen Alternaria zinniae not previously reported from this region was found infecting the plants causing moderate to heavy blight. During the study Alternaria zinniae infecting Zinniae sp. was reported first time in the valley of Kashmir.

The review study indicate the plots under zero tillage with bed planting (ZT-B) and zero tillage with flat planting (ZT-F) had nearly 28 and 26% higher total SOC stock compared with conventional tillage and bed planting (CT-B) (∼5.5 Mg ha−1) in the 0–5 cm soil layer. Plots under ZT-B and ZT–F contained higher total SOC stocks in the 0–5 and 5–15 cm soil layers than CT- B plots.

The import of orchid cut flowers has increased from 299.09 in 2008-09 to 3405.36 lakhs in 2015-16 (Anon., 2016).Orchids being tropical flower have a longer shelf life, as a result, they are marketed globally as cut flowers used for different purposes like flower arrangement, bouquets, corsages, stage decoration, floral jewellery, potted plant and as bedding ground orchids. Cymbidiums are leading cut flowers among orchids while Phaelanopsis are extensively used as pot plants and Dendrobiums are popular in tropical countries.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) is an important tuber cultivated in India. Cassava is vegetatively propagated through stem cuttings (setts). A mature plant with two stems will give about 12 to 20 normal sized (20 cm) setts after one year. Farmers are practicing 8-10 cm long cuttings from the mature part of stem and planted in vertical position in nursery bed at closer spacing of 5 cm. Under conventional system of propagation, 1250 to 1500 stems are required for planting one hectare of area.

The present study was conducted during kharif, 2012 and 2013 at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi to find out the effect of moisture management and zinc fertilization on performance of pearlmillet under rainfed conditions. Results of two year study showed considerable improvement in growth and productivity of pearlmillet. Flat bed with 5.0 t/ha crop residue recorded significantly higher plant height, dry matter accumulation, number of earheads, grain weight per earhead, yield and profitability as compared to flat bed without crop residue and flat bed with 2.
