Using amino acids for synthesis of heterocycles is a synthetically promising field. However, developing the practical methods for transformations of amino acids into heterocycles is still challenging. Given that alpha amino acids are abundant or easily prepared, herein we report a method for annulation of benzylic C-H bonds in derivatives of 2-phenylglycine with 1-(2-nitroaryl) pyrroles.

The synthesis of natural products 2-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid (1) and 2-(2,6-dibromo-3,5- dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid (2) and as well as their derivatives 25 and 26 were carried out by substitution, hydrolysis and demethylation reactions of the corresponding four benzyl bromides. The antioxidant potentials of benzylic acid-derived bromophenols were, for the first time, appraised by several outstanding bioanalytical methods.

: Dynamic light scattering and viscosimetric methods were used to study polypeptides including polyleucine, poly (γ -benzyl-L-glutamate), poly (α-L-glutamic acid), and polyproline II. Chain extension showing rod-like and flexible conformations occurred in poly(γ -benzyl-L-glutamate) and polyproline II solutions as these solutions were diluted in glacial acetic acid or in a mixed solvent of acetic acid and dichloromethane.

The surface of mesocellular silica foam (MCF) was modified by grafting 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES) to have a positive charge, and thus to provide sites for the immobilization of H3PW12O40(PW12). This modified nanosized mesoporous silica (PW12-APTES@MCF) was characterized by FTIR, XRD, BET, and TEM. XRD and adsorption–desorption analysis shows that the mesostructure of silica remains intact after various modifications, while the spectral technique shows the successful grafting of the neat PW12 inside the porous silica support.

Two new azo-Schiff base receptors (L1 and L2) containing azo and azomethine groups with a conjugated group (benzyl ring of anthranilic acid, in L1) and electron-donating group (alkyl chain of hexanoic acid, in L2) were synthesized and characterized. Azo-hydrazone/phenol-keto tautomerism and solvatochromism were investigated. Studying their sensing ability towards cations (Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Mn2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, and Al3+), high sensitivity and selectivity were recorded for Fe3+ by naked eye and UV-Vis spectra in DMF-aqueous HEPES buffer (v:v, 1:1, pH 6.8).

An aqueous two-phase extraction system was constituted using magnetic ionic liquid-nonionic surfactant for phenolic acids and the developed method was applied to apple, grape, pear, and banana samples. Ionic liquids based on imidazolium containing butyl, allyl, and benzyl groups were used for extraction. The parameters influencing the extraction efficiency such as volume of ionic liquids, type and amount of surfactant and salt, ultrasound extraction time, temperature, and sample pH were optimized.

This research, a new diblock copolymer, poly(glutamic acid)-bpoly(benzyl glutamate-r-octadecyl glutamate) was synthesized and characterized. A precursor, poly(tert-butyl glutamate)-b-poly(benzyl glutamate-r-octadecyl glutamate) with tert-butyl as an acid-labile protecting group for the carboxylic acid group was first synthesized, followed by the removal of the tert-butyl groups to yield the desired amphiphilic diblock copolymer.

A study on influence of different doses of Benzyl Adenine (BA) combined with constant level of Naphthalin acetic acid (NAA) on callus induction, shoot multiplication, and rooting of Kew pineapple was conducted. Early callus response was observed in treatment concentrations of 2mg/l BA with 2mg/l NAA and 3mg/l BA with 2mg/l NAA. Treatment 2mg/l BA with 2mg/l NAA was resulted to replicate the maximum number of shoots (22.71 at 90 days) significantly among the treatments. Shoot length was most enhanced by 0.5 mg/l BA with 2 mg/l NAA (8.09 cm at 90 days) dose.

In vitro regeneration and in planta transformation protocols were standardized for the black gram (Vigna mungo L.) cv. VBN 3, an important grain legume. An efficient regeneration protocol was developed using 1-week-old de-embryonated cotyledon as explants. The maximum frequency of shoot regeneration (72.6%), multiple shoot induction (6.0 ± 0.3) and shoot elongation was achieved on MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l 6-benzyl amino purine (BAP) after 4 weeks of culture. Chagas disease, which is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, is a major health problem in Latin America, and there are currently no drugs for the effective treatment of this disease. The energy metabolism of T. cruzi is an attractive target for drug design, and we previously reported that inhibitors of α-hydroxy acid dehydrogenase (HADH)-isozyme II exhibit trypanocidal activity.

The experiment was carried out in the department of horticulture NEHU Tura Campus, Meghalaya during the year 2013-2015 by keeping in view of 11 treatments on the effect of postharvest quality of cut Gerbera flower for maintaining the vase life at room temperature. The cut flowers were harvested in the morning and were kept in vase solutions containing gibberrelic acid and benzyl adenine (with distilled water). Sucrose at 4% was added to all treatments as a base solution.
