Many studies show that hyperglycemia can lead to injury to the intestinal mucosal barrier, increasing the likelihood of infection, leading to intestinal inflammation in people with type 2 diabetes. Recently, investigations indicate that the gut microbiome plays a very important role in this disease in which Lactobacillus in the gut has been shown to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism, improving oxidative stress, and inhibiting inflammatory responses.

Bifidobacterium is anerobic bacterium which is popular in human and animal intestine. B. infantis was successfully isolated from a new-born child’s fecal sample previously. In this study, the probiotic characteristics of this strain such as: extracellular enzyme production ability; antibiotic activity against food-born pathogen like E. coli, S. aureus; organic acid production and bile-salt sufferance were evaluated.

The objective of this study was to investigate the beneficial, virulence, and antibiotic resistance-related genes in 10 well-characterized bacteriocinogenic LAB strains. The autoaggregation, co-aggregation, cell surface hydrophobicity, and bile salt tolerance were also evaluated to examine their potential as bacteriocinogenic probiotics and/or starter culture. Results showed that all tested strains showed abilities for auto-aggregation at 4oC and 37oC, co-aggregation with S. aureus JCM8704, S. typhimurium BIOTECH1826, and E. coli DH5α, and significant cell-surface hydrophobicity.

In the biochemical milieu of human colon, bile acids act as signaling mediators between the host and its gut microbiota. Biotransformation of primary to secondary bile acids have been known to be involved in the immune regulation of human physiology.

Probiotics have been extensively studied and explored commercially in many different products in the world. Looking to the demand and health prospects extensive screening for Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) with probiotic potentials was investigated. Total 57 bacterial isolates were collected from the 32 samples. Out of which, 33 LAB isolates were confirmed on the basis of morphological and preliminary biochemical characterization. On the basis of probiotic traits such as low pH and high bile salt tolerance, 8 LAB isolates with probiotic potentials were selected.

As many as 25 lactic acid bacterial strains were isolated from various sources. These isolates were investigated for their tolerance to low pH (3.0, 4.0 and 5.0) and different bile concentrations (0.3 %, 0.4 %, 0.75 % and 1.0 %). Among 25 isolates, strain 42, 45 and 48 showed very high tolerance to acidic pH and the same isolates also tolerated high level of bile salt concentration up to 1.0 per cent.

The best results for antimicrobial activity against test pathogens and positive bile salt hydrolase activity in the presence of sodium taurodeoxycholate have also been observed in these cultures. Yoghurt cultures ST 144 and LB 144 had the highest antioxidative activity 78.30 ± 0.12, and 76.13 ± 0.12 UmL-1 , respectively. In conclusions, yoghurt cultures ST 144 and LB 144 exhibited the promising probiotic properties with additional functional properties such as antioxidant and proteolytic activity.

Idiopathic or transient neonatal cholestasis (TNC) represents a group of cholestatic disorders with unidentified origin and remains a diagnosis of exclusion. Dysfunction of hepatobiliary transporters mediating excretion of biliary constituents from hepatocytes may play a central role in the pathogenesis of cholestasis.

The aim of this study is to analyze probiotic properties of isolated lactic acid bacteria from human breast milk. Identification of lactic acid bacterial (LAB) was done by Gram’s staining and catalase test and further confirmation was based on morphological, cultural, physiological and different biochemical tests. The isolated strain was identified after different biochemical analysis which was also showed reliable probiotic properties. These isolates were examined for further probiotic properties including tolerance to bile salt and resistance to low PH, antimicrobial activity.

Then study the effect of selected strains against pathogens, and on the population of pathogens in reconstituted skim milk (RSM).Seven strains from Bacillus sp. (3) and Bacillus subtilis (4) were selected which were grow in low pH 1.0 to 5.0 and tolerant bile salt 0.3 to 2%, highly resistant to simulated gastrointestinal tract conditions, and showed antimicrobial activity against Salmonella typhimurium ATCC20231 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923.

Antibiotics are the first line of defence against bacterial infections. Overuse/misuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of antibiotics resistant bacterial strains, making them ineffective. Alternative approaches should be sought to handle this challenge. Bile salt is a cation compounded form of bile acid and is synthesized in the liver. Reduction in the flow of bile salts has led to bacterial translocation in the body. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro effect of bile salt on E. coli and S. aureus.
