  • In this paper we describe the emissions of glycerol/diesel and glycerol/biodiesel emulsion blends on marine diesel engines. In addition, fuel physicochemical characteristics and handling issues for these fuels are discussed. Glycerol is an attractive fuel blending material as it is a waste product of biodiesel production with desirable combustion and fuel properties when emulsified into diesel and biodiesel fuels.

  • Biodiesels of vegetable oils are becoming increasingly popular because of their low environmental impact and potential as a green alternative fuel for diesel engine and they would not require significant modification of existing engine hardware. Methyl ester of Pongamia (PB) and Jatropha (JB) were derived through transesterification process. Experimental investigations have been carried out to examine performance and emissions of different blends (1:1, 2:1, and 1:2 by volume) of PB and JB in comparison to diesel.

  • This work is based on the performance of biodiesel blends with diesel in providing for a suitable alternative fuel. There are various methods in which the biodiesel blends are made. Every approach uses the preparation of biofuel initially from a parent oil blend. Here cottonseed oil is taken to make biodiesel. For the conversion ionic liquids have been used as catalysts.

  • Biofuels are renewable fuels are made from biomass materials, produced through biological processes such as anaerobic digestion or agriculture, rather than the fuels produced through geological processes such as coal and petroleum. Biofuels primarily include ethanol and biodiesel and have numerous advantages such as lower carbon emissions over fossil fuels. Ethanol and biodiesel are usually blended with petroleum fuels (gasoline and diesel fuel), but they can also be used on their own.

  • Distillate of upgraded palm biodiesel was blended in different volume percentages (5, 10, 15, and 20%) with jet A-1. The mixture can be used as a replacement for petroleum Jet fuel. Physical properties of blends were measured and compared with those of jet A-1. Empirical equations were developed to predict the properties of blended fuel, including density, kinematic viscosity, freezing point, H/C ratio, and acid value. The statistical analysis indicated that the proposed equations predictions agree well with the experimental data. The predicted model shows an (R2 ) between 0.99–0.

  • Ethanol use has also been boosted by the U.S. Clean Air Act and its various progressions. Originally, the Clean Air Act required wintertime use of oxygenated fuels in some urban areas to ensure more complete burning of petroleum fuels. Since ethanol contains 35 percent oxygen, this requirement of the act could be met by using an ethanol-containing blend. The current Energy Act eliminates the need for oxygenates per se in RFG, but it speci- fies the minimum amount of renewable fuels to be added to gasoline....

  • Research, development and industrialisation of renewable energy are currently moving at a rapid pace worldwide. Biofuels play significant roles in decarbonisation of our future energy needs and act to mitigate deleterious impacts of greenhouse gas emissions. Liquid transportation biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel) now represent key contributors to the bioenergy portfolios in many countries. National governmental obligations and international directives are mandating the blending of biofuels in petrol (gasoline) and diesel and these are acting as great stimuli to this industrial sector.
