Biodiesel from waste cooking oil

This paper presents a study on the effect of the biodiesel ratio on the performance and emissions of diesel engines. The research engine is a cylinder engine AVL-5402 that has been simulated using the software AVLBoost.

The results showed that the polymer additive with the alkyl chain C14H29- demonstrated the best flow improvement performance. At a concentration of 1000 ppm, this polymer additive reduced the pour point of waste cooking oil-based biodiesel from 12 to 5o C. In this study, the effect of alkyl chain length, molecular weight, as well as the concentration of the additives on the pour point of biodiesel was also discussed.

Waste cooking oil is applied as a raw material of biodiesel because it has the characteristics of diesel fuel. This research was carried out based on American Standard Testing and Material Methods. In this paper, life cycle assessment of biodiesel production and use was applied to measure the environmental performance of biodiesel produced from Jatropha oil and WCO under Viet Nam conditions. Some main emissions, such as CO2, NOx, PM, CH4, VOC and land use, were computed through a cradle-to-grave analysis.
