Ebook "Insect conservation and islands" is a series of original papers and reviews dealing with the peculiarities of island insects and their conservation in many parts of the world. Contributions to this special issue of Journal of Insect Conservation range from biogeographical analyses and ecological features of island insects and their evolution to the variety of concerns for their wellbeing, and practical conservation through a variety of, sometimes novel, approaches. They provide a valuable and up-to-date resource for entomologists and conservation practitioners.

Zannichellia L. (Potamogetonaceae) is a widespread aquatic genus that is distributed in temperate and subtropical aquatic ecosystems worldwide. Because the biogeographical location of Iran includes mountain ranges and deserts that may cause different habitat types, it was assumed that these Zannichellia populations would be stronger differentiated than observed in Zannichellia from temperate regions. The present study aimed to test whether Z. palustris would demonstrate high levels of genetic differentiation over long distances and across mountain ranges.

This study is a first tentative attempt to understand the driving abiotic factors affecting the distribution of 7 oak taxa and 3 hybrids in Lebanon and to elucidate differences amongst the ecological niche. A field survey was conducted all over Lebanon, where taxa at 91 points were georeferenced and inventoried.

Although the livestock sector has a significant contribution to the national economy, production per animal is extremely low. The average lactation milk production of the indigenous cows ranges from 494–850 kg under optimum management (EARO 1999; Haile et al. 2009a). The trend is similar to beef production. It is indicated that crosses of Ethiopian Boran with Hereford, Aberdeen or Charolais had 20–30% higher body weight than the pure Ethiopian Boran (EARO 1999).

International onshore students were distributed across the Australian states and territories,  but  with  a  skew  towards  greater  internationalisation  in  the more  populous  states.  New  South Wales and Victoria had shares of the international higher education enrolment which  were  at  least 10%  greater  than  their  shares of  the domestic  student  load – 33.8%  versus  30.8% in the case of New South Wales and 31.5% versus 27.1%, in the case of Victoria.

Similar to a clustered index on a table, both horizontal and vertical partitioning are non-redundant, i.e., they incur little or no storage overhead. Also, in the same way that only one clustering can be chosen for a table, only one partitioning can be chosen for a table. This makes partitioning particularly attractive in storage constrained or update intensive environments. Commercial systems today support hash and/or range horizontal partitioning, and in some cases hybrid schemes as well.

This report uses a new methodology for profiling sectors, building a picture of the LCEGS sector from  the bottom up, rather than from the top down as is traditionally the case.   Using a full sector analysis model (see Box 2.1), it examines a broader range of products and activities  within the Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services (LCEGS) sector, from three core  ‘Level  1’  sectors  (Environment,  Renewable  Energy  and  Emerging  Low  Carbon),  subdivided  down  to  2490  ‘Level 5’ sub‐sectors.

As a country which contains significant concentrations of population in fragile mountain eco- systems, expanding arid zones, various regions which are subject to periodic flooding, increasing deforestation and environmental degradation and high levels of poverty, Bolivia is particularly vulnerable to climate change. Its damaging impact can be seen in a range of phenomena such as increasingly severe and frequent flooding and landslides and the accelerated melting of tropical glaciers.

Crawl space concentrations were measured during five sampling events. Adjusted crawl space concentrations were compared to average adjusted indoor concentrations (Table 3). With two exceptions, the fractional differences were negative and within the range of –0.3 to –0.8 due to lower concentrations in the crawl space relative to indoors. The exceptions were 2-butanone and m/p-xylene with slightly elevated concentrations in the crawl space.

We will also consider using a range of other enforcement penalties, where appropriate, including the variation or cancellation of a firm’s permission to sell PPI and the suspension of its sales forces. In September 2007 we fined a firm and its CEO for inadequate systems and controls when recommending re-mortgages and PPI to customers. 19 This is the first time we have fined both a retail firm and its chief executive. We have also worked with firms 20 to change the way they sell PPI over the internet.

Legal definitions of IPV reference state or federal laws and generally refer specifically to threats or acts of physical or sexual violence including forced rape, stalking, harassment, certain types of psychological abuse and other crimes where civil or criminal justice remedies apply. Laws vary from state to state. Since non-physical forms of IPV can have many medical, psychological, behavioral and developmental effects, the definition used in these Guidelines is better suited for the identification and treatment of IPV in the health care setting.

As editor of this book, it has been my pleasure to collaborate with these many, fine contributing scientists.
