Ebook "Biology in stem cell niche" explores functions, pathologies, and applications of stem cells in relation to the niches in which they develop. Ten chapters cover the subject in depth, from a historical perspective through signaling, hormonal control, quiescence, biomimetics, epigenetics, engineering strategies for emulating, tumorigenesis and more. The chapter authors represent a broad range of international expertise and perspectives.

Ebook "Biology of the plant cuticle" assessing the impact of UV radiation on plant life have emphasized the role of the cuticle and underlying epidermis as optical filters for solar radiation. The field concerned with the diffusive transport of lipophilic organic non-electrolytes across the plant cuticle has reached a state of maturity. A new paradigm has recently been proposed for the diffusion of polar compounds and water across the cuticle. In the context of plant ecophysiology, cuticular transpiration can now be placed in the perspective of whole-leaf water relations.

Ebook "Relationships of natural enemies and non-prey foods" presents primarily the enemies’ perspective, and as such is the first comprehensive review of the nut- tional importance of non-prey foods for insect predators and parasitoids. Although the ecological significance of feeding on non-prey foods has long been underappreciated, attempts have been made to manipulate nectar and pollen ava- ability in crop fields in order to enhance levels of biological pest control by natural enemies (van Emden, 1965; Hagen, 1986; Coll, 1998a).

Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris, one of the most important fungal pathogen of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), is a constant threat to this crop worldwide. It causes yield losses up to 100 % depending upon the varietal susceptibility, growth stage and climatic conditions. Strategies have been employed for controlling this pathogen such as use of cultural practices, resistant cultivars, fungicides etc., but have proven less effective and even the use of chemicals have hazardous effects, and also lead to the development of fungicide resistance in pathogens.

The literature addressing the topics of decision making and the use of information is multi- disciplinary and spans topics such as management, social science, information technology, and human neurology and psychology. Many more subjects are almost certainly related. Consequently the literature is not cohesive, and each of the subject areas takes its own perspective.

The new millennium has seen the birth of a new perspective that conflates research in solid-state physics, biological science as well as materials engineering. The perspective is one that recognizes that future new advances in all these areas will be based on a fundamental understanding of the atomic and molecular infrastructure of materials that has resulted from two centuries of chemistry. Major advances will be achieved when the novel behavior, in particular the quantum mechanical behavior, that nanoscale structures possess, can be controlled and harnessed....

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been from its beginning the wave of evolution in computer science. It is in good health and a proof of it is the fact that many companies qualify its novelties as ‘smart’ or ‘intelligent’ independently of the features included in them; the term ‘society of knowledge’ has been imposed to draw society nearer to the future and a symbol of breakthrough.

Although the chapters included in this book are all addressing protein interactions, we try to separate them into two parts according to their objectives. Chapters in part 1 mainly focus on the investigation of some specific protein-protein or protein-nucleic acid interactions, and try to elucidate the mechanism of specific cellular processes. Part 1 provides some insight of why and how to study protein interactions, and illustrates some approaches to modulate protein interactions.
