Biomedical Waste (BMW) generated in health care facilities is a potential threat for the personnel handling them. Utmost precaution needs to be taken by healthcare workers (HCW) who handle them. In India the amount of BMW generated in a hospital ranges between 0.5-2kg/bed/day.

Biomedical waste (BMW) is generated in every health facility, which if not disposed off properly poses a risk for health and environment. Handling, segregation, mutilation, disinfection, storage, transportation and final disposal are vital steps for safe and scientific management of biomedical waste in any establishment. The objective was to assess the biomedical waste management (BMWM) practices and knowledge regarding BMWM in a tertiary care hospital.

Sodium hypochlorite is extensively used as a disinfectant in the health care industry for more than 150 years. There are lots of misconceptions are there even to this day regarding the dilution and time of exposure required for its disinfection action. National guideline on Biomedical waste published by the Ministry of Government of India in its recommendations on Biomedical Waste (BMW) rule of 2016 had suggested the use of 10 % Sodium hypochlorite which was later corrected as typographical error and changed to 1 % which is now followed in the BMW Rule – 2018.

Clinical Laboratory produces large quantities of liquid infectious waste in the form of body fluids including blood. Biomedical waste management generally covers the solid waste generated in the Health care set up. Liquid infected waste management in a hospital is mainly addressed in the form of Sewage treatment plant (STP) or Effluent treatment plant (ETP) which is made mandatory for hospitals. Construction of these facilities involves lot of financial expenditure. Small facilities may not be able to afford to construct a STP or ETP in their facility.

Unregulated biomedical waste management (BMWM) is a public health problem. This has posed a grave threat to not only human health and safety but also to the environment for the current and future generations. Safe and reliable methods for handling of biomedical waste (BMW) are of paramount importance. Effective BMWM is not only a legal necessity but also a social responsibility.

Advances in scientific development and research activities and patient care activities the amount of waste generated is increasing in amount day by day. About 10 to 25% of the hospital waste is considered hazardous and possess serious health threats. Lack of knowledge about proper segregation and disposal of the health care waste may cause various threats and hazards. All health care workers including doctors, nursing staffs, laboratory technicians, housekeeping individuals are working in our hospital.

The management of biomedical waste is an important issue in healthcare facilities, big and small. Appropriate knowledge regarding it is necessary to prevent its health consequences. This study was undertaken to assess the existing knowledge, attitude and practices regarding BMW management amongst nurses and to evaluate the effect of a structured training program given to them and in the process to update them about the recent guidelines. The study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Aurangabad (Maharashtra).

Biomedical waste has been one of the major headaches of any hospital. Eighty percent waste generated from the hospitals is general waste and the remaining twenty percent comes under the biomedical waste categories. If this waste is not properly managed, it is dangerous for people, animals and environment due to its high harmful potential. In the present investigation, aerobic bacteria like Escherichia coli (32%), Staphylococcus aureus (28%), and Bacillus spp. (10%) were isolated from the biomedical waste.

The waste from fi sh processing after the fish have been fi lleted can account for as much as 70% of the total catch weight. About 30% of such waste consists of scale and bone. This waste contains numerous valuable organic and inorganic components such as collagen and hydroxyapatite (HA), which have commercial value for use in manufacturing functional foods, cosmetics, and biomedical products. In particular, HA has been widely used as a biocompatible ceramic but mainly for contact with bone tissue, due to its resemblance to mineral bone.

today, across the globe, many local governmental incentives have been established to help promote the development of new cogeneration applications with an objective of driving fuel utilization. one such example is the spp (small power plant) in thailand. while such incentives are not new (for example, purpa in the us), the underlying motivations can be different.

Charities Are More Likely to Have a Paid Staff Volunteer Coordinator. We asked respondents if their charity or congregational social service outreach activity has a paid staff person whose responsibility includes management of volunteers. Three out of five charities (62 percent) report that they have such a person. Roughly a third (37 percent) of congregations that manage volunteers in social service outreach activities say that a staff person has responsibility for this management. Paid Staff Coordinators Spend Little Time Managing Volunteers.

The ANSI standard Structured Query Language (SQL) provides basic functions for data manipulation, transaction control, and record retrieval from the database. How- ever, most end users interact with Oracle through applications that provide an inter- face that hides the underlying SQL and its complexity. PL/SQL Oracle’s PL/SQL, a procedural language extension to SQL, is commonly used to implement program logic modules for applications. PL/SQL can be used to build stored procedures and triggers, looping controls, conditional statements, and error handling.
