The aim of this study "The role of gender on biosecurity practices in beef cattle supply chain farms in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi" was to know the role of gender on biosecurity practices in beef cattle farms in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Total sample was 51 beef cattle farmers which was chosen through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation and depth interview by using questionnaire. There was 22 questions which were divided into 5 sub variables: participation, isolation, sanitation, traffic control and other activities.

More recently, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP), a microsporidian parasite causes Hepatopancreatic Microsporidiosis (HPM) to be associated with white feces syndrome (WFS) and slow (retarded or stunted) growth in farmed L. vannamei (pacific white leg shrimp) in many of the shrimp growing countries in Asia, also in India. Numerous studies revealed that the pathogen causing significant economic losses to the shrimp industry.

An additional element in the prevention of introduction and spread of disease is the use of vaccination. The manual does not cover this aspect but the importance of an appropriate vaccination strategy is acknowledged, and vaccination as a possible risk management measure should form part of the overall biosecurity assessment and strategy. The purpose of the manual is to establish a minimum set of biosecurity guidelines, applicable to all poultry producers (including ratites) from hatcheries to the point of delivery at the processor.

This biosecurity manual reflects the minimum standard to apply to all poultry operations. Some elements may not be relevant to certain species, in particular those referring to a batch type operation as it is practiced in the broiler industry. While ratites (emus and ostriches) are classified as poultry, their size and production practices are substantially different from those of other species.

Ratites are not covered by the poultry PPPS. Biosecurity requirements in that sector are largely mandated by the requirements of its export markets. The egg industry has a Code of Practice for Biosecurity (Grimes and Jackson, Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, 2001), which is currently the industry standard with respect to biosecurity. This standard was used to develop the third party auditable EggCorp Assured™ program (ECA), which also includes food safety, environmental and welfare operating practices.

The nutritional knowledge and practical skills of small scale farm holders must be improved in order to ensure that PNG can take advantage of the benefits of aquaculture. An increase in this knowledge base will also directly benefit other agricultural industries reliant on the feeding of stock such as the rapidly expanding poultry industry.
