Replant disease is a major problem of apple orchards, which is a main cash crop in TransHimalayan region. The cause of this replant problem includes both biotic and abiotic factors, such as low nutrients, phytotoxins, actinomycetes, fungal complexes and nematodes. Fungi and oomycetes belonging to the well-known root rot complex are important factor of replant problems in apple.

Earthworm diversity and distribution patterns are generally governed by a variety of biotic and abiotic factors such as soil properties, surface litter, vegetation type and, land use pattern, local or regional climate and anthropogenic activities. In the present study we have analysed the earthworm diversity and soil analysis of Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala and Kanuvai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Both biotic and abiotic stresses are major constrains to agricultural production. Under stress conditions, plant growth is affected by a number of factors such as hormonal and nutritional imbalance, ion toxicity, physiological disorders, susceptibility to diseases, etc. Plant growth under stress conditions may be enhanced by the application of microbial inoculation including plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR).

GRAS transcription factors usually act as integrators of multiple growth regulatory and environmental signals, including axillary shoot meristem formation, root radial pattering, phytohormones, light signaling, and abiotic/biotic stress.

R2R3-MYB transcription factors (TFs) play important roles in plant growth and development, and response to biotic and abiotic stresses. However, their regulatory mechanisms in wound-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in woody plants are largely unknown.

Ephemeropteran, dipteran, and trichopteran were found predominant orders comprising 11, 8 and 8 genera respectively. Heptagenids, baetids and leptophlebids; chironomids, ceratopagonids and tipulids and hydropsychids, psychomyids and polycentropodids were dominant sub-groups/families among ephemeropterans, dipterans and trichopterans respectively.

Growth and productivity of higher plants are adversely affected by various environmental stresses which are of two main types, biotic and abiotic, depending on the source of stress. Broad range of abiotic stresses includes osmotic stress caused by drought, salinity, high or low temperatures, freezing, or flooding, as well as ionic, nutrient, or metal stresses, and others caused by mechanical factors, light, or radiation.

Plants are continuously affected by a variety of environmental factors. Whereas biotic environmental factors are other organisms such as symbionts, parasites, pathogens, herbivores, and competitors, abiotic factors include parameters and resources which determine plant growth like temperature, relative humidity, light, availability of water, mineral nutrients, and CO 2 , as well as wind, ionizing radiation, or pollutants (Schulze et al. 2002 ) . The effect each abiotic factor has on the plant depends on its quantity or intensity.
