  • The differences were observed at pathogenic level also amongst isolates. Most virulent isolate was BS 4 from Faizabad in North - eastern plains zone, which produced susceptible type of infection response even on resistant genotype. It is thus concluded that 13 different types of isolates exists in case of B. sorokiniana in India.

  • A typical example of this is old popular variety ‘Sonalika’ in India. However, Sonalika has been found highly susceptible to spot blotch. The studies were therefore conducted to assess the performance of genotypes of wheat and Triticale having Sr2 gene and its combinations with other Sr genes against spot blotch under artificially inoculated conditions at hot spot locations over years.

  • Wheat (Triticum estivum L.) is the major and important winter cereal food crop grown in India during Rabi season. The crop suffer from a number of devastating disease by fungi, bacteria, virus, phytoplasmas, nematodes and many other factors which educe yield and quality. The major fungal disease of wheat, spot blotch caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana is the most devastating disease in India and several other countries. The diseases affect all areal part of the plant.. Many new fungicides and biocides have been under taken to evaluate with poison food method.

  • Foliar blight disease caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.) Shoem is most important disease of wheat in North Eastern plain zones (NEPZ) representing warm and humid climate in India. It is also increasing in North Western plains zones (NWPZ), due to climate changes and causes considerable losses in susceptible varieties.

  • A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of different doses (60, 80, 100, 120, and 140kg/ha) of nitrogen application on 100kg/ha seed rate a semi dwarf, high yielding with good quality traits on ‘DBW 17’, variety of wheat was evaluated to study the effect of 100kg/ha seed rate and different doses of nitrogen application on percent disease intensity, AUDPC, and yield of wheat. The results showed that different doses 120kg/ha nitrogen and 100kg/ha seed rate significantly out yielded the 100 kg/ha and 140kg/ha nitrogen and seed rate in seed yield.

  • Experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of some culture media on the vegetative growth of Bipolaris sorokiniana. Five (5) treatment combinations each with three replications were employed. Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) showed highest radial growth (6.7cm) after 9th day of observation followed by V8 juice agar (6.3cm). Oat Meal Agar showed lowest radial growth (4.6cm) for UBS-1 strain of B. sorokiniana.

  • All the 10 treatments imposed improved yield and 1000-grain weight to a greater extent as compared to control. The fungicide seed treatment with vitavax power+Tilt (propiconazole) two spray performed best followed by folicur (tebuconazol) and Taspa (propiconazole 13.9%+ difenconazole13.9%). However, in different categories, seed treatment with vitavax power and flusilazole 40EC were the succeeding treatments effective against spot blotch of wheat.

  • Variability among isolates of Bipolaris sorokiniana was determined based on conidial morphology. The pathogen was isolated from wheat host from different agro-climatic zones of West Bengal and grown on four different media for investigation of conidial morphology of this pathogen. The size of colony (length and breadth) was increased with increasing incubation period.

Seed of such symptoms got infected of Curvularia lunata, Bipolaris sorghicola and B. sorokiniana infected seed of sorghum wheat and pearlmillet. Histopathology of apparently in infected seeds confined to mycelium fragments of Curvularia lunata in seed coat and endosperm, embryonic region of sorghum, wheat and pearlmillet seed. • Spot blotch caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc. in Sorok.) Shoem. is an important disease of Wheat and Barley. The biological control has been proved useful and economical in the control of spot blotch because of the harmful effect of fungicides to human and environment. The Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma virens were used in dual culture method to see their effect on mycelial growth of Bipolaris sorokiniana.

  • Inhibitory potential of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) at concentrations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppm was assessed on two foliar phytopathogens viz. Bipolaris sorokiniana and Alternaria brassicicola. Antifungal activity of AgNP was found to be significant in reducing germinating spores as well as mycelial growth of both pathogens in an experiment under controlled condition. AgNP at a concentration of 20 ppm was found effective to inhibit spore germination in B. sorokiniana as well as A. brassicicola. AgNP at 100 ppm resulted in restricting maximum mycelial growth for both pathogens.

  • Spot blotch in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is mainly caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.) Shoem in India and south Asian countries and inflected losses in yield up to 50 per cent. The isolates of B. Sorokiniana (BS1 to BS10) isolated from blighted leaf samples collected from different part of Jammu sub-tropics. Cultural and morphological variability of B. sorokiniana isolates exhibited that the colonies were effuse grey-white to effuse black and velvety-white mycelial growth with regular to irregular margins. The colour of colonies varied from grey to dark brown and white to light grey.
