A 7-year-old female patient presented with leukoderma patches and poliosis on forehead and both legs at birth. The lesions increased in size gradually in proportion to the patient’s growth without spreading out. There are no symptoms. The child’s mental and motor developments were completely normal.

Neonatal mortality (over the first three weeks of life) is a major concern in canine breeding facilities as an economic and welfare issue. Since low birth weight (LBW) dramatically increases the risk of neonatal death, the risk factors of occurrence need to be identified together with the chances and determinants of survival of newborns at-risk.

Gene innovation by duplication is a fundamental evolutionary process but is difficult to study in humans due to the large size, high sequence identity, and mosaic nature of segmental duplication blocks.

Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) of the wolf and the lynx was evaluated for 15 pelvic and sacral variables in 48 specimens from the Western Carpathians. Our data confirmed small male-biased SSD in the pelvic and sacral bones for both species. We suggest that this can be explained by the need for a compromise between requirements for locomotion and giving birth. We also confirmed that significant differences exist between the species in the size of the pelvic and sacral bones. We discuss our findings in light of the species’ different life histories.

Because birth size appears to be positively associated with breast cancer risk, we have studied whether this risk may differ according to molecular breast cancer subtypes. We found a positive association of birth length with risk of Luminal A, Luminal B (HER2+) and TN breast cancer that appears to be restricted to women whose mothers were relatively tall.

Vertebral size and especially cross-sectional area (CSA) are independently associated with vertebral fracture risk. Previous studies have suggested that physical activity and especially high-impact exercise may affect vertebral strength.

A total of 4186 records of Rambouillet sheep maintained at Government Sheep Breeding and Research Farm, Reasi, Jammu, India for 10 years (1998-2007) were analyzed to estimate the reproduction traits in relation to non-genetic factors viz., season of lambing and year of lambing on Age at first fertile service, Age at first lambing, litter size at birth and interlambing period.

Reproductive traits of 1976 ewes of Rambouillet sheep maintained at Government Sheep Breeding and Research Farm, Reasi, Jammu, India for 10 years (1998- 2007) were recorded. Genetic parameters were estimated for age at first fertile service, age at first lambing, litter size at birth (1976) and inter lambing period. Estimates of heritabilities for animal genetic and permanent environmental and maternal genetic effects were mainly low for all traits under study.

Sibship size and structure have a significant association with overweight and obesity in children, but the relationship with thinness has not been fully studied and understood, especially in Asia. This study evaluated the associations among number of siblings, birth order, and childhood thinness and investigated the association of number of younger or older siblings with childhood thinness.

Non-Hispanic black (NHB) infants are twice as likely as non-Hispanic white infants to experience rapid weight gain in the first 6 months, yet few trials have targeted this population. The current study tests the efficacy of “Mothers & Others,” a home-based intervention for NHB women and their study partners versus an attentioncontrol, on infant size and growth between birth and 15 months.

Preterm birth and very small size at birth have long-term effects on neurodevelopment and growth. A relatively small percentage of extremely low birthweight babies suffer from severe neurological disability; however, up to 50 % experience some neurodevelopmental or learning disability in childhood.

Most people in industrialized societies grow up in core (parents only) families with few if any siblings. Based on an evolutionary perspective, it may be argued that this environment reflects a mismatch, in that the tribal setting offered a larger number of close affiliates. The present project examined whether this mismatch may have a negative impact on mental health.

The present study was carried out for investigation of polymorphism of FecB and POU1F1 gene in Assam Hill goat. Blood samples pertaining to 80 randomly selected Assam Hill goats having kidding history of single as well as multiple births maintained at three field units viz., Batabari, Nahira and Tetelia under “AICRP on Goat Improvement” were utilized. DNA was extracted using modified phenol chloroform extraction procedure. The quantity and quality of extracted DNA were assessed using spectrophotometry and agarose gel electrophoresis.

Molai aadu is a lesser known goat breed rearing for meat purpose in Tamil Nadu and not yet registered as distinct breed. So far no sincere efforts have been made for registration of this population of important genotype. Hence, the present study was carried out to document Molai Aadu goat by using the proforma developed by the NBAGR, Karnal. Molai aadu goat is very popular among the breeders and has spread to Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Erode and Tirupur districts. The goat is prevalently spread to Chithode, Kavundapadi, Sirivaloor, Nambiyoor, Kanjikovil and Nallampatty areas of Erode district.

Most observers of the economy now accept that a major shift occurred during the 1970s. The rapid productivity growth of the postwar years came to an end—for reasons that are still being debated among economists and historians. Wage growth lagged, and the economy suffered multiple shocks from energy prices and rapid inflation. The surge of births in the postwar baby boom meant that the labor force grew rapidly, while women were entering the labor force in numbers unprecedented in peacetime.
