An experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2017-2018 at the Central Research Farm of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, to evaluate the efficacy of bio-agents and botanical extracts against anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) of black gram (Vigna mungo L.) both in vitro and in vivo. In vitro studies showed significant difference in the inhibition per cent of mycelial growth of the pathogen among all the treatments.

Black gram [Vigna mungo (L)] seeds are a rich source of digestible protein and dietary fibre, both for human and animal consumption. However, the quality and quantity of the Vigna seeds are severely affected by bruchid beetles during storage. Therefore, analyses of the expression of the bruchid induced transcript dynamics in black gram pods would be helpful to understand the underlying defense mechanism against bruchid oviposition.

The present experiment was conducted at Research cum Instructional Farm of SGCARS Kumhrawand, Jagdalpur, Bastar (C.G.). The experiment was conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two replications. Crop was grown proper spacing 30×10cm during Kharif 2019. The study was undertaken on the 80 black gram genotypes along with two checks (Indira Urd Pratham and T.U. 94-2) to study the correlation and path analysis.

The present study entitled “Genetic Divergence in Black gram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper]” was conducted with 56 genotypes and two checks namely Pant U-31 and Pratap Urd-1during Kharif- 2019 at the Experimental farm, RCA, MPUAT, Udaipur. The genotypes were planted in augmented RBD design in four blocks. Mean squares due to genotypes were significant for plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant and pod length out of twelve characters as divulge from ANOVA.

In this study, two bio-control agents, Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas fluorescens were assessed for their ability to reduce the growth of M. phaseolina under laboratory conditions. It was found that among the antagonists tested, Trichoderma exhibited strong inhibition (77.77%) against M. phaseolina.

Black gram is a major pulse crop and a good source of proteins and minerals. Genotypic correlation and path coefficient analysis were used to determine the effect of various traits as components of seed yield in fifty black gram genotypes. Genotypic correlations were recorded higher as compared to corresponding phenotypic correlations for majority of the traits under study indicating that there was an inherent association between these characters at genotypic level.

An experiment was carried out to study the interaction of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, Paecilomyces lilacinus, Pochonia chlamydosporia, Trichoderma viride, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescence on the growth of black gram. This study was done to investigate the role of some bacterial genera as biocontrol agent against Meloidogyne incognita.
