Embryogenic cultures (EC) of Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra J.F.Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Businsky) were initiated from immature pre-cotyledonary zygotic embryos sampled weekly from 16 different trees in 2 consecutive years. Douglas-fir cotyledon revised (DCR) medium supplemented with 13.6 µM of 2,4-D and 2.2 µM of BAP was used for initiation and maintenance of EC.

The effects of the climate–tree–growth relationship on treatability were investigated in the Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe) based on the altitudinal locations at approximately 960 m (B1) and 1010 m (B2) in the former coniferous afforestation area in Beytepe, Ankara, Turkey.

A total of 28 line and 24 point-source fires were ignited under varying weather and fuel loading conditions in Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra J.F.Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Rehder) stands. Relationships between the rate of fire spread and fuel and weather conditions were determined with correlation and regression analyses.

Monochamus galloprovincialis (Olivier) is the vector of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Steiner and Buhrer) Nickle, in Europe and Asia. Reproduction is probably the most important event in the life history of insects and may be affected by a number of factors, such as seasonal changes in larval or adult nutrition.

This study presents and discusses the results of a fire behavior study conducted in Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra J.F. Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Rehder) slash. A total of 30 experimental fires were conducted over 3 years under varying weather and fuel loading conditions in aging slash.

Corn stalk is a renewable natural resource that currently has limited industrial utilization. The objective of this study was to examine some chemical properties of corn stalk (holocellulose, α-cellulose, lignin and ash content, alcoholbenzene, hot and cold water solubility, and solubility in dilute alkali [1% NaOH]) and to evaluate its suitability for medium-density fiberboard (MDF) production.

Seasonal changes in water relations parameters, dry weight fraction (DWF), and root growth potential (RGP) were examined for Anatolian black pine Pinus nigra Arn. subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe seedlings. In addition, phenological conditions were monitored.

Crown characteristics are an important component of growth and yield models. The stem form of a tree depends to a large extent on the tree crown dimensions. However, there is no unified agreement on whether crown variables (crown ratio and crown length) should be incorporated into taper models for accurate predictions of diameter and volume.

The site index conversion equations are important for estimating the site index of one tree species from the site index of another tree species in mixed stands. In this study, data were obtained from 162 sample plots in mixed stands of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) from the Black Sea Region in the north of Turkey.

The accurate estimation of tree biomass is crucial for the efficient management of forest resources. In this study, we used a subsampling method for unbiased estimates of above-ground tree biomass. The method consists of 2 stages: the first stage consists of randomized branch sampling (RBS) and the second stage uses importance sampling (IS).

He stood leaning heavily on his carbine. High on his lonely perch, he slowly promenaded his eye over the dusk landscape spread out before him. It was the hour of midnight and a faint star-light barely outlined the salient features of the scenery. Behind him wound the valley of the St. Charles black with the shadows of pine and tamarac. Before him rose the crags of Levis, and beyond were the level stretches of the Beauce. To his left the waterfall of Montmorenci boomed and glistened. To his right lay silent and deserted the Plains of Abraham, over which a vapor of sanguine glory seemed...
