To study the effects of cover methods and nitrogen (N) levels on the growth and yield components of tomato Cv. Pear F1, field experiments with a 4x3 factorial design were conducted in the 2019 spring and winter seasons using a randomized complete block design with three replications.

The present study evaluated the effect of different colored plastic mulching viz. olive polythene film (OPF), silver polythene film (SPF), white polythene film (WPF), black polythene film (BPF) and blue polythene film (BLPF) on soil properties, growth, physiology, biochemical and mineral nutrient composition in onion bulbs. Soil properties at 0–10 cm depth are variably affected by colored polythene film mulches.

Different types and colours of plastic mulch have characteristic optical properties that change the levels of light radiation reaching the soil, causing increases or decreases in the soil temperature (Kasirajan and Ngouajio, 2012). Efficiency of plastic mulches varied according to the plastic colour i.e. white, black, blue, brown, green, red and yellow (Mahmood et al., 2002; Grundy and Bond, 2007; Dvořák et al., 2012).

An on –farm trial was conducted on various farmers field in different villages of Araria district during financial year 2016-17. This trail was conducted to overcome weed infestation during cultivation of chilli in farmers field. It leads to reduction in yield; quality of produce is inferior as compared to better quality produce, increased the cost of cultivation due to manual hand weeding by laborers and reduced the benefit cost ratio. The trial was conducted in randomized block design with three treatments and ten replications.

A field experiment was conducted in the year 2014-2015 to study the effect of drip irrigation levels and black plastic mulch on bell pepper production under naturally ventilated polyhouse. The experiment was carried out in Randomized Block Design with four drip irrigation levels (100, 80, 60 and 40 % of crop water requirement) and surface irrigation in conjunction with or without plastic mulch. Better results were found in drip irrigation system as compared to surface irrigation both under mulched and unmulched treatment.

The experiment was conducted at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu during 2019-20 to study the effect of different mulches on growth and yield of Black turmeric under drip irrigation condition. In this trial, different organic mulches viz., paddy straw, dry grass, coir pith along with plastic mulch were used as mulching material.

A tractor operated plastic mulch laying equipment was developed in the department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, CAE, UAS Raichur. It was developed to mechanize the conventional plastic mulching operation. A plastic mulch roller was mounted on the main frame of equipment. A 35 hp tractor was used as a power unit for both plastic mulching and drip laying operations.

A field experiment was conducted during June-January seasons of 2016-17 and 2017- 18 at ICAR- Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal to study the growth, yield and economics of pigeon pea cultivation under drip irrigation in combination with plastic mulching. The study was laid out in randomized block design with four treatments viz., control, drip irrigation, drip with black mulch and drip with silver mulch and replicated five times.

An investigation was carried out on sandy loam soils of tarai regions of Uttarakhand to analyze the potential of drip irrigation along with mulch technically as well as economically. The treatments of the study were comprised of four irrigation levels (0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 P.E) with mulch (silver/ black-100 micron) and non-mulch conditions along with control (100% P.E). The study revealed that drip irrigation along with mulch showed better performance in terms of yield, water use efficiency as well as economics. Maximum yield of 18.72 t/ha along with maximum net return of Rs 213990.

This study investigated the effects of mulching materials on yield and growth performance of Okra crop under drip irrigation. The treatments of the study comprised of two mulches (black polyethylene and coconut coir), control (without mulch) and under shade conditions. Initially, the plant height was more in under shade (25.5 cm) and least in control condition (16 cm). Difference in plant height was negligible in coir and plastic mulch. In flowering stage, the plant height was high in plastic mulch (54 cm) followed by coir, control and under shade (44 cm).

An experiment was conducted to examine the effect of different plastic colour mulches viz., white on black, silver on black and complete black on water saving and yield of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) variety Arka Komal under different drip irrigation levels at Raichur, is situated in the Northeastern dry zone which comes under Zone II in region-1 of Karnataka.. The treatments were laid in spilt plot design with four replications and sixteen treatments.

With rewarding possibilities of mulching in enhancing crop growth, present investigations were carried out in summer squash to investigate the effect of mulching on growth, yield and quality parameters in different varieties. The experiment was conducted with twenty different treatment combinations involving five different mulch materials (black plastic mulch, blue plastic mulch, transparent mulch, rice straw mulch and control) and four different varieties of summer squash (Arpit, Surya, Pratap and Desi) following Split Plot Design with three replications.

An experiment was conducted on the effect of colour plastic mulches on plant height, days to fifty per cent flowering, leaf area index under different irrigation levels. The treatments were laid out in split plot design with three replications and a non-mulched treatment as control. The plastic coloured mulches used were white on black, silver on black and black. The irrigation levels used were 60, 80, 100 and 120 per cent ET.
