The new lichen species Shackletonia backorii Halıcı, Güllü & Kahraman is described from James Ross Island, which is located in the North-East Antarctic Peninsula region. The new species is morphologically most similar to S. insignis (Søchting & Øvstedal) Søchting, Frödén & Arup, which was described from Livingstone Island (North-West Antarctic Peninsula region). These two species have a similar bluish grey to blackish thallus with a microfruticose and coralloid structure and red brown or almost black zeorine apothecia, but S. backorii has rhomboid ascospores and grows on soil whereas S.

Nesting water bird colonies may act as important drivers of aquatic-terrestrial nutrient turnover in coastal ecosystems. By depositing a large amount of guano, they induce changes in the structure of soils, flora, and fauna. However, little is known about how nesting water bird colonies influence soil fauna, especially in a Mediterranean type of coastal landscape.

The present study evaluated the effect of different colored plastic mulching viz. olive polythene film (OPF), silver polythene film (SPF), white polythene film (WPF), black polythene film (BPF) and blue polythene film (BLPF) on soil properties, growth, physiology, biochemical and mineral nutrient composition in onion bulbs. Soil properties at 0–10 cm depth are variably affected by colored polythene film mulches.

Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3–4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The aim of this study was to determine the phosphorus (P) sorption characteristics of gyttja, and its efficiency on P availability and soil’s pH value.

The results showed that AGC stocks were significantly lower than SOC, normally ranging from 9.9 to 29.55 tons ha-1 . Using the Walkley-Black method, the total SOC was estimated at the range of 81.76 to 323.83 tons ha-1 (with an average of 161.47±15.85 tons ha-1 ), which indicated a strong relationship between tree density and SOC. In addition, using the IDW interpolation method, this study estimated that the total CO2 absorbed by mangrove forests was 1,631,834 tons in Bang La and Dai Hop.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has given birth to several other new diseases in that the rapidly spreading infections of post-COVID recovered cases is Mucormycosis or black fungus. Mucormycosis is a very rare infection. It is mostly found in the environment such as soil, plants, manure and decaying organic matter. Mucormycosis is more common among people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the immunity. The symptoms of mucormycosis or black fungus depend on which part of the body the fungus is growing.

The present study was carried out in Krishi Vigyan Kendra Badgaon Balaghat under Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Jabalpur. The time trend analysis area, production, and productivity of gram showed that the area under gram was positively and significantly increasing in black soil of Balaghat, (R = 0.73**), production (R = 73**) and productivity (R = 0. 81***) respectively in district having better moisture content. The growth rate of area, production, and productivity in the first decade (1997-98) and second decade (2007-08 to 2016-17) was positive in districts.

The present study deals with the degradation of Reactive black GDN by different bacterial cultures isolated from a contaminated site. Amongst 5 cultures, the isolate 4 displayed 96% decolourisation of Reactive black GDN (100 mgl-1 ) in 24h to 72 h. The colour removal efficiency of the isolate was further improved by optimizing various parameters. The decolourisation of the dye was 1.9 times higher under static as compared to shaking condition. The pH 7.0 and 37oC temperature were found to be optimum for the decolourisation of the dye.

Different types and colours of plastic mulch have characteristic optical properties that change the levels of light radiation reaching the soil, causing increases or decreases in the soil temperature (Kasirajan and Ngouajio, 2012). Efficiency of plastic mulches varied according to the plastic colour i.e. white, black, blue, brown, green, red and yellow (Mahmood et al., 2002; Grundy and Bond, 2007; Dvořák et al., 2012).

This may be better preposition for reclamation of sodic soils. The use of lagoon sludge along with spent wash is also beneficial for reclamation of sodic verticals’ (Anonymous 2014-15). In view of above fact there is need of efficient, inexpensive and environmentally acceptable amendment for reclamation of alkali soils.

There are herbicides which show prolonged persistence in soil resulting in reduced weed infestation in succeeding crops in the system. Contrary to this, sometimes undesirable herbicide in respect to crop its dose, time and method of application may lead to residual hazards in soil and produced, which can be harmful for human and animals (Arora et al., 2013). Pertinent review on “weed management in blackgram and residual effect of herbicides on succeeding mustard crop” has been presented here.
