  • Iron is an essential micro-mineral in human nutrition. It is a mineral found in every cell of the body and required to make part of blood cell. It participates as a catalyst in several metabolic reactions. As a component of haemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome and other proteins, iron plays an important role in the transport, storage and utilization of oxygen and cellular proliferation. In this study, an attempt was made to prepare dahi by using 1% starter culture, fortified with iron by using ferrous lactate @ 40 mg/kg milk.

  • Thirty two ram lambs (11.3 kg ±0.3) randomly divided into 4 groups were subjected to four feeding regimes to evaluate the effects of feed restriction levels on biochemical parameters in a CRD model. The restricted phase for a period of 8 weeks was followed by realimentation phase for 4 weeks. Four treatments containing 8 animals in each were subjected to feed restriction at 0, 10, 20 and 30 percent.

  • Chromium has been recognized as a new and important micro-nutrient, essential for both human and animal nutrition. This study was conducted to evaluate the appropriateness and/or the use of safety level of dietary chromium picolinate (Cr-Pic), and its effects on the physiological responses, the histometric characteristics, and the chemical analysis of dorsal muscles of mono-sex Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. niloticus. A total of 420 fingerlings (28.00 ± 0.96 g) were randomly distributed into 21 fiberglass tanks representing seven treatments at a rate of 20 fish m3 .

  • Like outdoor air , indoor air contains a complex mixture of pollutants (chemical substances, allergens and microbes) from different sources that changes with time. Findings on the health effects of single air pollutants cannot necessarily be extended to mixtures. Indeed, different chemicals may interact with each other and cause more (or less) harmful effects than the sum of the effects caused by each chemical separately. Very little is known about the combined effects of indoor air pollutants.

  • Recent literature shows that much has been learned about the effects of diffusion, dispersion, advection and adsorption on chemical transport in soils (van Genuchten & Wierenga, 1976; Goltz & Roberts, 1988; Ptacek & Gillham, 1992). Numerous models have been developed in attempts to describe the one-dimensional transport of chemicals.

  • Using chemical ionization mass spectrometry and photo- acoustic spectroscopy, we analysed the evolution of vola- tile organic compounds (VOCs) and other trace gases dur- ing an approximately one-week measurement period each in a pigsty and a sheep shed at the Federal Agricultural Research Centre (FAL) in Mariensee, Germany. When ac- tivities in the sheep shed were most intense during feeding hours and manure removal, concentration surges of VOCs were observed, which strongly correlated with methane and ammonia levels.
