In this study, the as-fabricated nanocomposite was characterized by using physicochemical strategies. The cell-material boundary of the nanocomposite was observed in vitro with human osteoblast cells, and the cell replication was tested. The nanocomposite promoted the bone cell adhesion and proliferation, improved the mechanical strength and repressed the growth of bacterial cells.

To improve the strength of posterior spine fixation in patients with osteoporosis, some scholars have proposed a method of simultaneously inserting traditional pedicle screws and cortical bone trajectory screws into the pedicle.

Chronic intercondylar fractures of the distal humerus with massive bone defects and severe comminution in the metaphysis are rare and complex injuries that are challenging for surgeons to treat, as reconstructing the triangular structure of the distal humerus is difficult and may have a severe impact on functional outcomes, especially in young patients, for whom total elbow arthroplasty is usually not a suitable option due to significant impairment in upper limb strength.

Recently, analysis of bone from knockout mice identified muscarinic acetylcholine receptor subtype M3 (mAChR M3) and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit α2 as positive regulator of bone mass accrual whereas of male mice deficient for α7-nAChR (α7KO) did not reveal impact in regulation of bone remodeling.

In adult patients with developmental hip dysplasia, a surgical procedure (triple innominate osteotomy) of the pelvic bone can be performed to rotate the acetabulum in the frontal plane, establishing better acetabular coverage. Although common clinical hip scores demonstrate significant improvements after surgery, they provide only overall information about function.

Degeneration of cartilage will change load distribution, affecting bone remodeling progress and trabecular structure and strength. However, in human primary osteoporosis, whether cartilage lesions would also affect properties beneath trabecular bone remains unknown. In this study, we explored the differences in local trabecular properties between osteoporosis patients with and without cartilage lesions.

In dermatomyostis (DM) patients, inflammation, reduced activity, and medication have a negative impact on the musculoskeletal system. Several endocrine factors are involved in muscle growth and bone turnover.

Exercise programmes have shown to be important for the prevention of fractures in patients with established osteoporosis. However, few studies have evaluated the effect of such programmes for women with low bone mineral density (BMD) (osteoporosis or osteopenia) who have already suffered a fracture.

Low-molecular-weight heparins (e.g. Enoxaparin) are widely used to prevent venous thromboembolism after orthopaedic surgery, but there are reports about serious side effects including reduction in bone density and strength.

There is evidence that postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on glucocorticoid (GC) therapy and bisphosphonate (BP) have an increased risk for atypical subtrochanteric and atypical diaphyseal femoral fracture (AFF). The underlying mechanism has not been elucidated so far.

The distal radius is the most common osteoporotic fracture site occurring in postmenopausal women. Finite element (FE) modeling is a non-invasive mathematical technique that can estimate bone strength using inputted geometry/micro-architecture and tissue material properties from computed tomographic images.

Bone structure and strength are rapidly lost during conditions of decreased mechanical loading, and aged bones have a diminished ability to adapt to increased mechanical loading. This is a concern for older patients that experience periods of limited mobility or bed rest, but the acute effects of disuse on the bones of aged patients have not been thoroughly described.

Inhibition of activin/myostatin pathway has emerged as a novel approach to increase muscle mass and bone strength. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a neuromuscular disorder that leads to progressive muscle degeneration and also high incidence of fractures.

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of loading frequency on the failure of articular cartilage-on-bone specimens under three-point bending. Methods: In this study, cyclic three-point bending was used to introduce failure into cartilage-on-bone specimens at varying loading frequencies.

Quadriceps tendon-patellar bone (QTPB) autograft is an excellent graft option with good clinical outcome. Use of QTPB autografts have increased because they minimize donor-site morbidity including anterior knee pain, while providing adequate mechanical strength.

Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements are widely used to assess fracture risk. However, the finding that some fracture patients had high BMD together with the low contribution of drugs to osteoporosis suggests that bone strength factors other than BMD contribute to bone quality.

In cases of avulsion fracture of the ischial tuberosity in which the bone fragments are substantially displaced, nonunion may cause pain in the ischial area. Various surgical procedures have been reported, but achieving sufficient fixation strength is difficult.

Areal bone mineral density (aBMD) estimated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is used to estimate peak bone mass, define osteoporosis and predict fracture. However, as aBMD is calculated as bone mineral content (BMC) divided by the scanned area, aBMD displays an inverse relationship with bone size.
