Botanical survey

This study investigated the diversity of ornamental plants with medicinal values at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ho Chi Minh City. The research was conducted through a comprehensive survey, including questionnaires, observation, taking pictures and notes on each sample.

Boehmeria pilosiuscula has two varieties, including Boehmeria pilosiuscula var. pilosiuscula distributed in north-eastern and southeastern India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Philippines, Indonesia and Boehmeria pilosiuscula var. suffruticossa distributed in China (Hainan, Taiwan), Myanmar, and Thailand. This paper provides a detailed morphological description, distribution map, ecological information, and a color photoplate of this taxon.

We studied the application of the neglected name Centaurea leucolepis DC., concluding, by examination of the literature and original material, that the associated taxon is C. corensis Vals. et Filig., endemic to Campania region (southern Italy) and introduced into Sardinia. The name by Candolle is legitimate and it is here lectotypified by a specimen kept at G. In addition, after field surveys and herbarium searches, we suggest that this taxon should be considered as a subspecies of C. deusta Ten.

This compilation includes various diseases observed in Zoba-Anseba, Eritrea during a decade of time from 2007-2017. The total productive area of horticultural farms in this Zoba is over 26,885 ha and it is one of the most drought-prone regions of Eritrea. Farmers grow crops such cereals, oil seeds, vegetables and fruits etc. Enormous pathogens such as fungi, bacteria and other microbes; nematodes, and intervention of migratory insect pests cause a lot of damage to these crops and finally it leads in yield loss.

Eulophia angolensis is an endangered plant species found in the Okavango Delta. Generally, there is lack of botanical information on this species in Botswana, which is necessary for its in-situ and ex-situ conservation. The objectives of this research are to map areas where E. angolensis occurs, determine the species that co-exist with it, and establish soil factors that influence its abundance and distribution in the Okavango Delta. A survey of the area where the plant was sighted in 2004 was carried out using recorded GPS points.

Only 32% infants are exclusively breastfed during the first six months. This is an increase from 13% in 2003. Data from the 2003 and 2008 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey, show that although breastfeeding is a common practice in Kenya, mixed feeding rather than exclusive breastfeeding is practiced. There was a marked decline in exclusive breastfeeding rates between 1993/98 (17%) and 2003 (13%). Some of the contributing factors were confusing messages about breastfeeding in context HIV and AIDS.

According to a random survey conducted in 1997, 42% of Americans sought out and used one or more types of medical interventions that were not taught in medical schools and were not generally available in U.S. hospitals. This represented an eight percentage point increase over the 1990 results of the same survey. While the vast majority (96%) of these people were also seeking conventional treatment for their health problems, less than 40% of these people told their conventional doctors what they were doing.
