Early blight is potentially destructive disease in tomato occurring on the oldest leaves as small, brownish which are due to foliar blight disease and it was caused by a foliar fungal pathogen Alternaria solani. The disease causes considerable yield as well as post-harvest losses. A. solani produced blackish, fluffy mycelium with septate, beaked conidia on PDA Eight plant extracts and four biocontrol agents were evaluated following poison food technique and dual culture.

Brown spot of rice caused by Drechslera oryzae and rice root-knot nematode caused by Meloidogyne graminicola are serious pest of rice and has become a major constraint in rice production throughout the world. A lab experiment was conducted in Laboratory of the Department of Plant Pathology, SHUATS, Prayagraj, and U.P. during 2018-19 to observed the effect of botanicals viz., against Drechslera oryzae and Meloidogyne graminicola of rice.

A study was conducted to determine the mycoflora associated with pigeon pea cultivar MA6 and effect of botanicals on growth of mycoflora. The dominant fungi observed on pigeon pea cultivar MA6 seed were Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Penicillium citrinum, P. rubrum, Alternaria alternata, A. solani, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporium. Among the treatments, the sulphate and nitrate treated seeds showed the less number of fungi isolated in comparison to untreated seeds. The nature of fungal flora had changed with prolongation of storage period of pigeonpea seeds.

A study was conducted in vitro to control Colletotrichum dematium causing anthracnose disease of groundnut with Trichoderma harzianum and botanicals. Five botanicals viz., Datura leaf extract, Tulsi leaf extract, Garlic bulb extract, Neem oil and Eucalyptus oil at the rate of 5% were evaluated for their efficacy against the radial colony growth of C. dematium. The complete inhibition was obtained in Eucalyptus oil (100%) followed by T. harzianum (71.01%), datura leaf extract (64.78%), tulsi leaf extract (63.63%), neem oil (49.14%) and garlic bulb extract (43.35%).
