Dystocia or difficulty in parturition is a commonly seen in cattle and buffaloes among the domestic animals. The condition can occur as result of numerous factors. This condition when it occurs in a heifer, foetomaternal disproportion becomes the main causative factor. Such conditions often need a caesarean section in order to save the life of the dam. A two year old cross bred holstein friesian heifer presented with the condition of dystocia due to foeto maternal disproportion and left shoulder flexion was subjected to caesarean section.

Torsion of uterus is a common form of maternal dystocia in bovines. Both maternal and fetal causes are attributed to the etiology of uterine torsion. The entire length of pregnant uterine horn rotates on its longitudinal axis to the left (anticlockwise) or right side (clockwise) along with uterine body, cervix and cranial vagina mostly. In severe cases of uterine torsion, there is vascular compromise to foetus resulting in death of fetus in utero.

Cortisol is often called the "stress hormone" because of its connection to the stress response, however, cortisol is much more than just a hormone released during stress. Parturition, although a physiological process, is a great stress for Dam. So In our studywe tried to evaluate impact of meloxicam on blood plasma cortisol levels in dystocia affected bovines.

A malformation in the fetus causes monstrosity which results difficulty in parturition. Fetal anomalies and monstrosities are common causes of dystocia in bovine with the incidence of 7.9 % in riverine buffaloes. The present communication records dystocia in a primiparous buffalo due to ischiopagus monster calf which was relieved through an emergency caesarean section. Various genetic and environmental factors are believed to be responsible for the failure of twins to separate after conception resulting in the formation of a conjoined twin.

The present study was conducted to analyze the consequences of cesarean section (csection) in terms of survivability and future fertility in bovine. The data from 304 veterinarians working at Civil Veterinary Hospitals, Punjab who performed 128 c-sections (Cattle: 70, buffalo: 58) was collected through a specially designed questionnaire and analyzed. A high overall survival rate was observed where indication of c-section was pelvic fracture/abnormal pelvis (67.7 %) followed by incomplete cervical dilatation (66.7 %) and fetal monsters (63.6 %).
