Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) is one of the most important sources of loss within the beef cattle industry in the USA. Steps have been taken to reduce the incidence of BRDC through vaccination. Despite the effectiveness of vaccines, large proportions of cattle still experience morbidity and mortality.

Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) complex is a respiratory syndrome caused by various infectious agents and represents a major economic and health problem in bovine population worldwide. Stress is the probable predisposing factor for the development of BRD complex in bovines worldwide and is also a disease of economic importance to the bovine industry. One of the challenges of bovine respiratory medicine is early detection of clinical cases of BRD. This is especially important in subclinical forms of the disease, which can be easily missed and cause important economic losses.

A study was carried out in 24 buffaloes affected with Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) Complex, which were diagnosed based on the history and clinical findings of inappetance to anorexia, fever, nasal discharge, coughing, dyspnoea and abnormal lung sounds on auscultation of thoracic area. The affected animals were randomly categorized in three groups for treatment to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of ceftiofur, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin. Based on remission of clinical signs and symptoms ceftiofur was found to be most effective antibiotic for treatment of BRD complex in buffaloes.

Anaplasma is one of the most rickettsiale diseases in ruminants. Five species including Anaplasma marginale, Anaplasma centrale, Anaplasma bovis, Anaplasma phagocytophilium and Anaplasma ovis are recognized in ruminant animals. Anaplasma causes major economic losses to the livestock owner. Anaplasma is mainly transmitted by mechanical way such as by biting flies, lice and biological by different tick species and fomites in livestock.
