Thirty six diverse genotypes of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern and Coss.) were evaluated for ten quantitative. The variability indicates that Genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was moderate for 50% flowering, days to maturity, total no. of siliqua per plant, biological weight, test weight and seed yield; low for plant height, no. of siliqua on main shoot, no. of seed per siliqua and harvest index.

A field experiment was conducted to estimate the genetic variability, trait association and path coefficient analysis among the Indian mustard genotypes during rabi, 2019. Analysis of variance revealed the mean sum of squares due to genotypes was highly significant for all the characters studies indicating the existence of ample variability among the genotypes studied. The high GCV and PCV observed for number of siliquae per plant and secondary branches per plant indicated the influence of environment on the expression of these characters were at minimum level.

Ten diverse Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern and Coss) genotypes suitable for early, timely and late sown condition were crossed in diallel mating design excluding reciprocals with an objective to identify the heterotic crosses. All three type of heterosis (relative heterosis, heterobeltiosis and economic heterosis) were estimated for seed yield and contributing traits.

The present experiment was conducted in on 220 cultivars of mustard to measure the correlation path analysis of agro-morphological traits on yield. Observation of ten agromorphological traits viz. Days to 50% Flowering, Plant height (cm.), No. of primary branches, No. of secondary branches, Days to maturity, Length of siliqua, No. of siliqua / plant, No. of seeds/siliqua, 1000 seed weight (gm.), Yield/plant (gm.) were recorded to analyze the data.

A field experiment was conducted in Rabi 2015 in a randomized block design with the objective to screen advanced breeding lines (genotypes) of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. Czern and Coss) for different physiological parameters viz, chlorophyll content, membrane stability index (MSI %), relative water content (RWC %) and electrolyte leakage and yield related to terminal heat tolerance. The study indicated that genotypes, ‘Pusa Bold’, ‘NRCHB-101’ and ‘PRO-5222’ had tolerance to high temperature at terminal stage.

Brassica species are major oilseed crops which are an increasingly important part of the human diet worldwide. In present investigation 11 varieties and their 55 F1’s were characterized for storage seed protein profiling using sodium dodecyl sulphate – polyacryl amide gel electrophoresis (SDS - PAGE). The electrophoresis of the proteins revealed protein bands in the range of 80kD to less than 14 kD molecular weight (MW). Out of 15 bands 14 bands were more or less monomorphic and only single band was polymorphic.

Seventy five crosses of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern & Coss] generated by crossing of fifty lines with five testers in a line x tester mating design, which were used to estimate the standard heterosis potentiality for seed yield, its component traits and oil content. These parents, crosses and checks were sown in randomized complete block design under four environments each replicated thrice at two different locations. Observations were recorded on thirteen different characters.

In the present study, an overall appraisal of GCA effects revealed that RH0735 and BPR349-9 in normal environment and RH0116 and RH0555A in late sown environment were good general combiner for majority of the characters. High GCA effects are related to additive gene effects or additive x additive interaction which represent the fixable genetic component of variation. Hence these parents could be efficiently used for exploiting seed yield.
