Brinjal crop

Brinjal or eggplant is the fourth most important vegetable crop in India in terms of production; India being its second highest producing country with 23.7% of world’s total share. Collar rot disease is proving to be a constraint for brinjal production with yield losses upto 30%. The pathogen Sclerotium rolfsii is able to attack all stages of the crop and is difficult to manage. A study was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of botanicals and bioagents in the management of the disease.

The research work entitled “Economics of Brinjal production in Dhamtari Block of Chhattisgarh – An Economic Analysis.’’ was carried out with a view to estimate the costs and returns in brinjal production. Five Villages from Dhamtari block were selected purposively on the basis of area under brinjal crop. After selection of this villages, a list of brinjal growing farmers were prepared and further categorized into three size group on the basis of size of land holding, i.e. small farmer (up to 2.0 ha), medium farmer (2.01 to 4 ha), From each size group 20 farmers were selected randomly.

Brinjal is an important vegetables crop grown in India. The leaf mold is an important disease causing yield loss in Manipur region. Among the plant extracts studied garlic at both concentrations (3 and 6%) showed maximum growth inhibition, whereas among the fungicides propiconazole and hexaconazole showed the maximum efficiency in inhibition of growth over the control. The sporulation was completely inhibited in all the treatments studied.

Brinjal is an important vegetable crop grown all over the world. It is been affected by many diseases. Brinjal leaf mold is an important disease, causing the yield loss in Manipur. Present study is to know the distribution and severity in valley districts of Manipur. The highest disease severity was ranging between 21.40-41.25%. The pathogenicity study was also conducted simultaneously.

The present study aimed to determine irrigation depth and interval based on soil water potential fluctuation monitoring for Brinjal. Field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur, Tamil Nadu during the two crop growing seasons from 13 November 2018 to 22 March 2019 and 13 April 2019 to 20 August 2019. Brinjal F1 hybrid Dhruva was transplanted at the row spacing of 90 cm and plant spacing was 45 cm.

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is an important solanaceous vegetable crop in sub-tropics and tropics. Adults and nymphs of Leaf hopper feed on the underside of the leaves by sucking plant sap, which results in yellowing and curling of leaves. It also injects toxic material into the leaves, which causes necrosis.

Brinjal is one of the important vegetable crops growing in India. Fruit rot brinjal caused by Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum melongenae and Phomopsis vexans is one of the important diseases of brinjal. Hence, in this investigation, critical growth studies were done to understand the pathogen behaviour. The nutritional studies were taken up to know the best medium required for the growth and sporulation of the all three pathogens.

There exists a lot of controversy regarding the prevalence of strains in the various parts of the world. In India, however, scant information is available about the prevalence of biovars/races and strains in various parts of the country. Understanding local pathogen genetic diversity is the first step in a successful breeding and integrated disease management programme. One of the purposes of the present investigation on six isolates of R.

The present study was carried out at AB District Seed Farm, BCKV, Kalyani Simanta, West Bengal, India during spring-summer 2012-13 and 2013-14, autumn-winter 2013-14 and 2014-15 with 40 brinjal genotypes in Randomized Block Design with two replications. Highly significant differences were observed for majority of the characters for the two factors viz., genotypes (G) and season (S) and their interaction (G X S). Paired t-test also clearly demonstrated the influence of season on the performance of eggplant germplasm.

Understanding the genetic variability and diversity of a crops species provides opportunity for plant breeders to develop new and improved cultivars having both farmer-preferred and breeder-preferred traits. In the present study 11 morphological characters and 16 quantitative characters were recorded from 27 advance breeding lines/varieties to identify useful alleles for future breeding. Genotypes varied considerably in plant growth and morphological characters. The overall mean of ShannonWiener diversity index (H’) value was 0.

The Groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) induced symptoms such as bud necrosis, chlorotic and necrotic spots on leaves of tomato, chilli and brinjal were collected from field for mechanical inoculation on cow pea (var. C-152) as local lesion host. The electron microscopic observation of the purified preparation of diseased samples showed the presence of spherical, membrane bound particles (80-120 nm) of typical tospoviruses.
