Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Brucella spp. In Nepal, the presence of brucellosis in small ruminants, namely sheep and goats, has impacted farmers’ livelihood and the food safety of consumers. A crosssectional study was conducted in Rupandehi district of Nepal during January to March 2020 to investigate the seroepidemiology and associated risk factors of brucellosis in the sheep and goat population.

We investigated the prevalence of Brucellosis in sheep in Ludhiana district of Punjab state of India. Serum samples of sheep (n=171) from slaughter houses and an organized farm were analyzed with common sero diagnostic tests RBPT, STAT, MAT and ELISA. Out of 171 sera, 31 were positive by one or more of the four tests; 12 were positive and 140 were negative by all the four tests. The prevalence was 10.52% by RBPT and ELISA.

Brucellosis is a zoonosis known to be a major public health hazard of great economic importance globally. The present study was taken up to ascertain the seroprevalence of brucellosis in goats, sheep, and humans of Anand, districts of the Central Gujarat region. A total of 200 serum samples were collected from the goat and sheep of Anand district and subjected to different serological test i.e., Rose Bengal Plate test (RBPT), Standard Tube Agglutination Test (STAT) and Indirect ELISA to detect the Brucella antibody and also compared in terms of their sensitivity and specificity.

The present study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of brucellosis in small and large ruminants in state of Chhattisgarh, India. A total of 1050 sera samples from cattle (n=750), buffaloes (n=95), goats (n= 170) and sheep (n=35) were collected and tested for the presence of antibrucella antibodies by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (IELISA) kits.

The present study reports clinico seroepidemiological observations of Brucellosis including molecular epidemiology. During the period of study a total of 6410 sera were collected, which included cattle (2723), buffaloes (894), sheep (1072), goats (1281), camel (438) and equine(02). These sera were screened for the presence of Brucella antibodies by RBPT and i-ELISA.

Outbreak of brucellosis has been recorded in sheep flocks in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, India. Total 15 abortions were recorded in two flocks of 115 sheep. Samples from aborted fetus, retained placenta colostrum and sera samples were collected. Sera samples were tested by Rose Bengal plate agglutination test. Culture and isolation were done on selective media.

Sheep and goat brucellosis caused by Brucella melitensis, one of the most virulent Brucella species accounting for economic losses through abortion, stillbirths, reduction of milk yield and infertility. Disease has wide socioeconomic impact, in countries where, livestock sector is the major source of rural income. Early diagnosis is essential to minimise the spread of the disease besides public health importance. The present study reports the isolation, identification, biotyping and molecular confirmation of Brucella spp.

In sheep and goats, Brucellosis is mainly caused by Brucella melitensis whereas Brucella ovis causes the disease in sheep. The symptoms in infected sheep and goats are abortions, stillbirths and the birth of weak offsprings. Animals that abort may retain the placenta.

Brucellosis is one of the world’s major zoonoses that affect wide range of domesticated as well as wild animals. Despite the eradication program of brucellosis, the disease is still endemic among cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats. In many developing countries including India, Brucella melitensis is of much concern due to heavy economic losses to animal husbandry sector as well as humans. The present study was carried out to detect and characterize B.
