Apple (Malus ssp.), one of the most important temperate fruit crops, has a long cultivation history and is economically important. To identify the genetic relationships among the apple germplasm accessions, wholegenome structural variants identified between M. domestica cultivars ‘Jonathan’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ were used.

Apple is one of the most popular fruit crops world-wide and its skin color is an important quality consideration essential for commercial value. However, the strategy on genetic breeding for red skin apple and the genetic basis of skin color differentiation is very limited and still largely unknown.

Floral induction is an important stage in the apple tree life cycle. In ‘Nagafu No. 2’, which was derived from a ‘Fuji’ bud sport, flower bud formation is associated with serious problems, such as fewer and inferior flower buds, a long juvenile phase, and an alternate bearing phenotype.

Swallowtail Lace Shawl A border of lily of the valley adds an interesting counterpoint to the tiny budding lace pattern at the top of this small shawl. It ends with a scalloped edging, and the lace throughout has an Estonian influence. This shawl looks great in both solid and semi-solid color lace, fingering, and Shetland/sport/DK weight yarns. This design originally appeared in the Fall 2006 issue of Interweave Knits.
