  • Dairy farming is one of the important activities among the rural farmers. It provides sustainable income and reduces unemployment to a large number of the rural poor. The study was conducted in Bidar disstrict of Karnataka state and is purposively selected for the study since it has got predominant buffalo based dairy production system. The main focus of the study was to assess the feeding and nutritional management of buffaloes. Bidar and Humnabad taluks were randomly selected for the study. A total of 180 buffalo farmers were selected for the study.

  • The study was conducted during 2015-16 in Bundi district of Rajasthan to assess the reproductive performance of buffaloes. A multi-stage sampling design was used to select the 180 sample households. The selected respondent farmers were interviewed personally using a well structured and pre-tested interview schedule. The results of the study indicate poor reproductive performance of buffaloes. Further, anestrous and repeat breeding were the most prevalent reproductive disorders in buffaloes in the study area.

  • A field study was undertaken to find out the shelter management practices followed by the farmers of Patan district of North Gujarat region. Five talukas were randomly selected for the study viz., Patan, Sidhpur, Chanasma, Harij and Santalpur. Three villages were selected from each taluka and from each village 10 respondents who reared buffalo either alone or mixed with cattle were selected by using a multistage random sampling technique.   • The present study was conducted to ascertain the socio economic personal antecedents of the dairy farmers of Jaipur district of Rajasthan. There are total thirteen tehsils in Jaipur district, out of which four tehsils Viratnagar, Shahpura, Chmou and Phulera were randomly selected. Five villages from each tehsil were also randomly selected. For selection of respondent’s twelve farmers who possess at least 5 milch (dairy) animals either cattle or buffalo and both practicing dairy farming were selected randomly from each village as respondents for the study.

  • The present investigation was carried out to study the feeding and housing patterns adopted by buffaloes keepers in Junagadh and Porbandar districts of Gujarat State. A random sample of 300 buffalo owners were selected from three talukas of Junagadh and two talukas of Porbandar district. Majority of buffalo owners (55.67%) had animal shed located inside dwelling house with kuccha slopped floor (83.67%). Most of buffalo owners reduced heat stress in buffaloes by splashing of water and 71% farmers adopted both stall feeding and grazing to their buffalo.

  • The training can be more effective and significant when analysis of training needs prior to the beginning of training programmes and imparting knowledge according to the needs of the farmers. The present study was conducted in the Madhepura District of Bihar with the purpose of identifying training needs of buffalo farmers. Pura tehsil of Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir, India and data was collected from 120 respondents belonging to Gujjar community through specially designed questionnaire by random sampling method. The study revealed that majority of farmers fed concentrate and roughages to their animals and depend on bore wells as a source of drinking water to their buffaloes. About 63.34% respondents fed colostrum within 1h of birth of calves followed by 25.83% fed between 1- 3h and 13% fed after 3h of birth of calves.

  • The present study was conducted in higher cattle concentrated Kamarpara, Kukurmara and Mankachar villages falling in the Indo Bangladesh International Border areas out of the total of fifteen such villages in Dhubri District, Assam. Thirty six farmers each having at least two yielding cattle/buffaloes in those villages was selected randomly making the total sample size 108. Socio- personal, communicational, economic and psychological and managerial data were collected on a reliable (r=0.93) and valid (content validated) interview schedule specially prepared for this purpose.

  • A survey conducted to know the socio economic profile of buffalo farmers in Guntur and Prakasam of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 144 respondents were selected through multi stage random sampling and data collected with structured interview schedule. It was observed that buffalo farming is an occupation of young respondents with no formal schooling and small land owners belonging to all communities. It contributes 1/3rd of their family income. The average income obtained from buffalo farming was Rs. 75,236.

  • An one ha model of integrated farming system initiated during 2015 at Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana. One hectare area divided into 5 blocks viz. involving rice-sweet corn- dhaincha on 0.24 ha, banana plantation with on 0.15 ha, brinjal-tomato in 0.2 ha for vegetable production, Green fodder crops were raised on 0.35 ha. 50 saplings of coconut were planted all around the bunds. Field beans are also grown on the bunds between the trees of coconut. Vines of bitter gourd, bottle gourd and cucumber were trained on a pandal of 0.04ha.
