The data was collected by personal interview cum questionnaire schedule consisting the feeding practices followed by the farmers.   • A study was conducted at the Banaras Hindu University Dairy Farm to estimate the effects of feeding management practices on rearing of animals and milk production in terms of economic analysis. The data pertaining to the feeds and feeding systems being followed and their input costs were collected from the records maintained for all the animals at the dairy farm. The lactation yield of cows and buffaloes has been worked out to 996 and 1150 Litres, respectively. The cost of daily feeding per head and per Litre of milk has been estimated to Rs. 60.26 and Rs. 10.80, respectively.

  • A field study was undertaken to find out the shelter management practices followed by the farmers of Patan district of North Gujarat region. Five talukas were randomly selected for the study viz., Patan, Sidhpur, Chanasma, Harij and Santalpur. Three villages were selected from each taluka and from each village 10 respondents who reared buffalo either alone or mixed with cattle were selected by using a multistage random sampling technique. The analyses revealed that majority (58.00%) of the respondents were from the old age group (above 45 yrs.).

  • Detection of viral antigen by direct fluorescent antibody test (FAT) from clinical samples collected from cattle and buffaloes of Navsari, Surat and Valsad Districts of Southern Gujarat were carried out. Out of a total of 116 clinical samples (44-cattle, 72-buffaloes) tested, fluorescence was observed in 14 (12.09%) samples.   • A total of 300 milk samples from buffaloes were evaluated for mastitis and incidence of E. coli. Overall, 157 milk samples (52.33%) were positive for mastitis and out of these positive isolates, 27 bacterial isolates (17.19 %) were identified as E. coli.   • The present case reports on management of complete uterine prolapse in Murrah buffalo in her 4rth lactation at Astron Dairy Farms, Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The animal completely recovered after proper treatment, management and care.   • A field survey was conducted in and around R.S. Pura tehsil of Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir, India and data was collected from 120 respondents belonging to Gujjar community through specially designed questionnaire by random sampling method. The study revealed that majority of farmers fed concentrate and roughages to their animals and depend on bore wells as a source of drinking water to their buffaloes. About 63.34% respondents fed colostrum within 1h of birth of calves followed by 25.83% fed between 1- 3h and 13% fed after 3h of birth of calves.
