Plant P-type II Ca2+ATPases are formed by two distinct groups of proteins (ACAs and ECAs) that perform pumping of Ca2+ outside the cytoplasm during homeostasis, and play vital functions during development and stress management. In the present study, we have performed identification and characterisation of P-type II Ca2+ATPase gene family in an important crop plant Triticum aestivum.

This leads to a strong dependency of Ca2+ supply via the xylem. Resulting physiological disorder are tip burn in lettuce or blossom end rot in tomato. Plants deficient in calcium have been shown to be more susceptible to pathogens and exogenous calcium supply in turn has been shown to improve the plant’s resistance. Conserved microbial patterns for example PAMP initiating a signaling cascade leading to induction of downstream responses of defense gene expression. Future research will shed more light on the different functions of this important nutrient and how they are interconnected.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is very difficult to treat with conventional anti-cancer/anti-apoptotic drugs. We tested the hypothesis that inhibition of Na+ /K+ -ATPase causes a mixed or hybrid form of concurrent apoptosis and necrosis and therefore should enhance anti-cancer effects of chemotherapy on glioblastoma cells.

The changes in functional properties viz. solubility, total sulfhydryl groups, Ca2+ ATPase activity, emulsion activity index (EAI), emulsion capacity (EC), viscosity, foam volume stability (FVS), foam volume capacity, gelation, water holding capacity (WHC) of muscle proteins from fresh water fish eel (Mastacembelus armatus) during ice storage was evaluated for a period of 16 days with the analysis of each parameter monitored for every alternate day. The solubility of muscle proteins i.e. MFP decreased from 59.16 to 51.89 mg/g during chill storage.

In the present study, physico-chemical and functional properties such as solubility, Ca2+ATPase activity, total sulfhydryl group, emulsion activity index, emulsion stability, foam volume stability (FVS), foam volume capacity, gelation, water holding capacity (WHC) of muscle proteins from fresh eel (Mastacembelus armatus) fish were studied. Solubility value of sarcoplasmic (SPP) and myofibrillar protein (MFP) was 44.93 and 59.16 mg/g respectively. It is higher in MFP than SPP fraction. Ca2+ATPase activity of actomyosin was 0.

2-Aminoethoxydiphenyl Borate (2-APB) has been extensively used recently as a membrane permeable modulator of inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate-sensitive Ca2+ channels and store-operated Ca2+ entry. Here, we report that 2-APB is also an inhibitor of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ATPase (SERCA) Ca2+ pumps, and additionally increases ion leakage across the phospholipid bilayer. Therefore, we advise caution in the interpretation of results when used in Ca2+ signalling experiments.

The light chain binding domain of rat myosin 1d consists of two IQ-motifs, both of which bind the light chain calmodulin (CaM). To analyze the Myo1d ATPase activity as a function of the IQ-motifs and Ca2+ ⁄CaM binding, we expressed and affinity purified the Myo1d constructs Myo1d-head, Myo1d-IQ1, Myo1d-IQ1.2, Myo1d-IQ2 and Myo1dDLV-IQ2. IQ1 exhibited a high affinity for CaM both in the absence and presence of free Ca 2+ .
