Cadmium pollution now is one of the main environmental problems. Growing of plants hyper accumulators of Cd can help to remediate the polluted soils. Species Linum usitatissimum L. is one of such crops. Cadmium concentrations were analysed in the ashes of adult plants by x-ray fluorescence analyzer BRA – 18. The presence of pollutants did not influence flax germination ability, but tested genotypes showed different degrees of cadmium resistance.

This study results demonstrated that boosted Fe plaque formation can minimize detrimental effects of Cd on rice shoot growth to some extent, but the root tissues are the main barrier to Cd accumulation and movements in the interior of the rice plants.

Haliaeetus albicilla is a top raptor that can be used as a model for contaminants transfer in trophic chain. In this study we studied the accumulation of three contaminants on feathers from breeding individuals of white-tailed sea-eagle collected between 2012 and 2018 in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve and its surroundings. The concentrations of two heavy metals (chromium, cadmium) and one metalloid (arsenic) were determined by inductively coupled mass spectrometry. Chromium concentrations ranged from 0.32 to 1.33 mg/kg for juveniles and between 0.68 to 2.

Accumulation of cadmium (Cd) in maize (Zea mays L.) poses a significant risk to human health as it is ingested via the food chain. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted in a population of 269 maize accessions with 43,737 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to identify candidate genes and favorable alleles for controlling Cd accumulation in maize.

Peanut is the world’s fourth largest oilseed crop that exhibits wide cultivar variations in cadmium (Cd) accumulation. To establish the mechanisms of Cd distribution and accumulation in peanut plants, eight cDNA libraries from the roots of two contrasting cultivars, Fenghua 1 (low-Cd cultivar) and Silihong (high-Cd cultivar), were constructed and sequenced by RNA-sequencing.

Environmental toxicity from non-essential heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd), which is released from human activities and other environmental causes, is rapidly increasing. Wheat can accumulate high levels of Cd in edible tissues, which poses a major hazard to human health.

The recent release of the reference genome sequence assembly of flax, a self-pollinated crop with 15 chromosome pairs, into chromosome-scale pseudomolecules enables the characterization of gene families. The ABC transporter and HMA gene families are important in the control of cadmium (Cd) accumulation in crops.

In this study, two varieties of sweet sorghum (Keller and ETian) were grown with 5 levels (0, 5, 10, 25 and 50 ppm) of cadmium (Cd) in order to investigate the accumulation of Cd in plant parts at the hard dough stage. The results clearly showed the absence of Cd in the seeds of the above plants.

The major problem in peri urban areas is the poor quality of irrigation water since the waste from all sources is disposed in the rivers and other water bodies. This result in accumulation of heavy metals like Zinc Sulphate (ZnSO4), Cadmium Sulphate (CdSO4) and Copper Sulphate (CuSO4) in the water source has adverse effect on seed germination, Plant growth, and human health.

Persistent heavy metal pollution poses a major threat to all life forms in the environment due to its toxic effects. These metals are very reactive at low concentrations and can accumulate in the food web, causing severe public health concerns. The use of microbial biosorbents is eco-friendly and cost effective; hence, it is an efficient alternative for the remediation of heavy metal contaminated environments.

Heavy metals like cadmium, nickel, lead, chromium, mercury etc are important environmental pollutants in areas with anthropogenic pressure. Their presence in the atmosphere, soil and water, even in traces can cause serious problems to all organisms. Heavy metal accumulation in soils is of great concern in agricultural production due to the adverse effects on food quality, crop growth (Ma et al., 1994) and environmental health. Heavy metal bioaccumulation in the food chain can be especially highly dangerous to human health.

Among cereals, durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum) accumulates cadmium (Cd) at higher concentration if grown in Cd-polluted soils. Since cadmium accumulation is a risk for human health, the international trade organizations have limited the acceptable concentration of Cd in edible crops.

Root-to-shoot translocation of zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) depends on the concentrations of both metals in the medium. A previous study on tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) pointed to the contribution of NtZIP1, NtZIP2, NtZIP4 and NtIRT1-like in the regulation of this phenomenon.

This study was conducted to investigate cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) accumulation in soil, vegetables, and residential hair in the vicinity of Cho Dien mine. Health risk assessment of those was also evaluated based on vegetables contamination, including the average daily dose (ADD) and hazard quotient (HQ) calculation. The concentration of Cd and Pb in soil was 2.1 and 8.4 times higher than QCVN 03-MT:2015/BTNMT.
