In this research, a single-step polymeric novel particle was synthesized from oak bark extract by nanoemulsion polymerization technique for the first time in the literature. It has been shown that the synthesized particles are achieved without losing any antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the oak bark extract. In this study, the p(OB) particles were reported for the first time and were characterized in terms of antioxidant, blood compatible, H2O2 scavenging, antibacterial, and antifungal potential to evaluate their use in biocompatible materials with drug release system potential.

Nghiên cứu "Xác định tiềm năng ức chế virus dịch tả lợn châu Phi của một số hoạt chất thảo dược" được thực hiện nhằm đánh giá khả năng ức chế virus dịch tả lợn châu Phi (DTLCP) của 9 đơn chất có nguồn gốc thảo dược gồm: glycyrrhizin, berberine, emodin, ellagic acid, methyl gallate, caffeic acid, kaempferol, baicalein và naringenin. Thử nghiệm khả năng gây độc tế bào trên đại thực bào phế nang lợn cho thấy glycyrrhizin, berberine, ellagic acid, methyl gallate, kaempferol và naringenin không gây độc tế bào, emodin, caffeic acid và baicalein gây độc tế bào ở nồng độ 200 µM/ml.

Phenolic acids are one of the major fractions identified in the extract of several vegetable seed oils which present interesting antioxidant properties. A density functional theory (DFT) study on the antioxidant potential of eight phenolic acids including gallic, vanillic, isovanillic, ferulic, caffeic, β-coumaric, cinnamic, and chlorogenic acids, is presented in this paper.

In this study, nine ferulic and caffeic acid-based 1,2,4 and 1,3,4 oxadiazole molecular hybrids were synthesized and their cytotoxic activity was evaluated mainly against Glioblastoma (GBM) cell lines. Compounds 1 and 5 exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against three different GBM cell lines (LN229, T98G, and U87), without toxicity to healthy human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC). In addition, their cytotoxicity was also evaluated against three additional cancer cell lines and more inhibitory results were found than GBM cell lines.

The effects of UV-B light force, exposure time and incubation period on producing caffeic acid derivatives and growth parameters in Echinacea purpurea callus and suspension culture were assessed. UV-B led to an increment of all growth parameters and antioxidant activity in callus and cell suspension and caffeic acid derivatives in cell suspension by increasing incubation period.

Rosmarinic acid is a water-soluble ester of caffeic acid and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyllactic acids, and is mainly found in plant species including Boraginaceae and Lamiaceae. In this research, we determined the inhibition property of rosmarinic acid on carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes I and II (hCA I and II) purified from human erythrocytes by using Sepharose-4B affinity column chromatography. hCA I and II isoenzymes were obtained with a yield of 57.9% and 67.2% and 76.5- and 509.3-fold purification of each isoenzyme, respectively.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester induces apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells via inhibition of survivin
According to the results, CAPE decreased cell viability in the RKO cell line in a dose-dependent manner. Likewise, CAPE induced apoptotic cell death in approximately 40% of the RKO cells. Furthermore, CAPE treatment increased the Serine 15 (Ser15) and Serine 46 (Ser46) phosphorylation of p53, while decreased the survivin expression. The results suggested that CAPE induced apoptosis by regulating p53 phosphorylation, leading to inhibition of the survivin expression.

Pollen morphological and phytochemical comparative study of nine Saudi Arabian date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cultivars has been carried out. Pollen grains are generally small in size, monad, hetero-polar, asymmetric, elliptic in equatorial view, mono-sulcate. Exine sculpturing is micro-reticulate. Little differences have shown in the pollen dimensions, muri thickness and lumen size. The phytochemical screening of date palm pollen grains revealed the presence of high amounts of phenolics and flavonoids and displayed good antioxidant capacity.

The present study was conducted to characterize the polyphenolic contents of lettuce leaves grown under different night-time temperatures (4, 12, and 20 C) and cultivation durations (5, 15, and 20 days) using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). The assay method was validated based on specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and the performance limit. The total polyphenolic contents were highest (2462.6 mg/kg) after transplantation at a night temperature of 20 C on day 20 and lowest (1132.7 mg/kg) at the same temperature on day 5.

Bacterial strains and culture conditions: Grape pomace is a natural product rich in dietary fiber and polyphenols. A major part of dietary polyphenols is not absorbed in the small intestine and can interact with colonic microbiota. The influence of grape polyphenols on Lactobacillus acidophilus CECT 903 growth was investigated through agar diffusion assays and cultures in liquid media. Grape phenolic extracts and some standards of phenolic compounds (caffeic acid, gallic acid, tannic acid, catechin, epicatechin, and quercetin) were assayed.
