The effects of the coagulants on the functional properties of soybean curds have not or have rarely been investigated. The most common coagulant available to the local processor in Nigeria is lime juice. This research studies the yield, proximate composition and functional properties of soybean curd prepared using lime juice and compared it with those prepared with acetic acid and calcium chloride (CaCl2).

SEM and TEM were used to evaluate the surface morphology and microstructure of the fiber membrane. Ultraviolet spectrophotometry was used to detect drug release. A LIVE/DEAD Viability/Cytotoxicity Kit and fluorescence staining were used to detect cell morphology and activity. Alkaline phosphatase and calcium mineralization deposition were used to evaluate the osteoinductive activity of the scaffold. Dynamic mechanical analysis was used to determine the Young’s modulus, maximum load, and maximum elongation of the prepared scaffold.

Hydrophilic nano MnO is shown to have significant stability in aqueous media for oxidation of styrene. Different catalysts have been used to synthesis styrene oxide, but MnO-CaL is considered the efficient and selective catalyst to produce styrene oxide. In general, this paper reported especial strategy for synthesis of novel nano MnO that stabilized with oleic acid in chloroform and changing nature of its stabilizer by exchanging oleic acid with lignosulfunate and displays its catalytic activity towards selective oxidation of styrene.

Four composites of hydroxyapatite/hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HAP/HPAM-n) were prepared using an in situ wet chemical method. The synthesis was performed by preparing a suspension of calcium in a copolymer solution having a known HPAM concentration. Phosphoric acid was added dropwise to each suspension to obtain HAP/HPAM-n composites. The effect of initial copolymer amount on the composite properties was investigated using XRD, FTIR, TGA, and SEM/EDS analysis. The obtained results were compared to the HAP sample synthesized under the same conditions and without copolymer.

Chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC)/calcium carbonate nanocomposites were successfully prepared by the incorporation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles into the CPVC matrix. The compatibility between the two phases was obtained by surface modification of the CaCO3 nanoparticles with stearic acid, leading to improved material performance. The effects of the addition of different amounts of CaCO3 nanoparticles to the CPVC on the thermal, mechanical, and morphological characteristics of the CPVC/CaCO3 nanocomposites were investigated.

Artificially fabricated hydroxyapatite (HAP) shows excellent biocompatibility with various kinds of cells and tissues which makes it an ideal candidate for a bone substitute material. In this study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles have been prepared by using the wet chemical precipitation method using calcium nitrate tetra-hydrate [Ca(NO3)2.4H2O] and di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate [(NH4)2HPO4] as precursors. The composite scaffolds have been prepared by a freeze-drying method with hydroxyapatite, chitosan, and gelatin which form a 3D network of interconnected pores.

Reusability of two heterogeneous catalysts in ultrasound (US) assisted biodiesel production was investigated in comparison to each other. An ultrasound (US) generator (200 W, 20 kHz) equipped with a horn type probe (19 mm) was used. Regeneration experiments were planned according to second order central composite design (CCD) method. After the eighth use of the catalysts, biodiesel yield decreased from 99.1% to 90.4% for calcined calcite (CaO) and from 98.8% to 89.8% for calcined dolomite (CaO.MgO).

Calcium aluminosilicate (Ca2Al2SiO7) phosphors doped with Ln3+ (1 mol%) ions (Ln: Eu, Ce, and Tb) were prepared by the solid-state reaction at high temperature. Photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation spectra (PLE) of Ce3+ and Eu3+ ions in Ca2Al2SiO7 material have been studied and used to predict the lowest f-d transition energies as well as charge transfer energies of lanthanides in Ca2Al2SiO7 host lattice.

In this work, Ce3+ and Sm3+ ions doped/co-doped Ca2Al2SiO7 (CAS) phosphors were prepared by solid state reaction method at high temperature. X-ray diffraction results showed that the prepared samples had tetragonal single phases with selected synthesis conditions. Energy transfer process of Ce3+/Sm3+ pair in CAS phosphor was studied by photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra. Emission intensity of Ce3+ in Ca2Al2SiO7:xCe3+ , (1mol%) Sm3+ phosphors clearly varied with Ce3+ concentration; and reached to maximum value at the concentration of 2 (mol%).
