Heterosis over mid parent was estimated in thirty crosses of China aster involving six lines viz., Matsumoto Pink, Matsumoto Red, Matsumoto Rose, Matsumoto Yellow, Matsumoto Scarlet and Matsumoto White and five testers viz., Phule Ganesh Violet, Phule Ganesh Purple, IIHRJ3-2, IIHRG13 and Local White during 2016-17 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru. Results revealed that the cross L5 × T1 exhibited highest positive significant relative heterosis for plant height, number of branches per plant, and duration of flowering.

The present investigations were undertaken at experimental farm of department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (H.P.) during the years 2012-2013. The China aster cv. ‘Kamini’ was selected for conducting the investigations. The experiment was laid out in RBD (Factorial) with 20 treatments and 3 replications. Tallest plant (83.32 cm) obtained with a combined application of 30 g N/m2 and 25 g P2O5/m2 (N2P3) that proved to be at par with N2P1, N2P2 and N4P3 whereas minimum plant height (46.

An experiment was conducted during 2016-2017 at College of Horticulture SKLTSHU Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with factorial concept with three replications. Factor I includes two varieties Kamini (V1) and Poornima (V2), factor II includes eight treatments viz., Pendimethalin (30EC), Oxyfluorfen (25EC) and Alachlor (50EC) as pre emergence herbicides in combination with Quizalofop ethyl (10EC) as post emergence followed by hand weeding at 20 DAT.

China aster [Callistephus chinensis (L.) Nees] belongs to the family Asteraceae and is native of Northern China. It is grown commercially as cut flower for flower arrangement, interior decoration and loose flower for garland making and worshipping. A total of 30 China aster F1 hybrids developed through line x tester mating design involving 6 female and 5 male parents, were evaluated for qualitative and quantitative characters during 2016- 17. All the hybrids showed semi-double type of flower heads. Both spreading and semierect plant types were found to be dominant over erect type.

Crossability in 15 F1 hybrids and 8 parents (5 lines and 3 testers) of China aster were studied using Line x Tester mating design. The crossability relationship in different crosses was determined by days taken for hybrid seed maturity, total number of seeds/cross, seed weight/cross (g) and 100 seed weight (g). The results revealed that the parent Local Pink recorded highest number of seeds per flower head (203.75) and weight of seeds per flower head (0.54 g). The number of days taken from pollination to hybrid seed maturity was ranged from 31.33 days (Arka Archana x Local Pink) to 39.

The present experiment was conducted on three varieties of china aster viz., Shashank, ArkaArchana and ArkaAadya grown in pots at the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, College of Agriculture, OUAT, Bhubaneswar during 2016-17 in order to ascertain the influence of foliar application of gibberellic acid (GA3) on growth, flowering and yield. The treatments of foliar spray of GA3 (50, 100 and 150 ppm) was given with different spray frequencies (twice and thrice).

China aster (Callistephus chinensis L. (Nees.)) is a semi hardy annual and commercial flower crop belonging to the family Asteraceae. China aster is a self pollinated crop, but the natural outcrossing is approximately 10 per cent as reported and described floral biology of China aster. The study results revealed that high heritability along with high genetic advance existed in cross viz., AAC-1 × Arka Poornima and Arka Kamini × P G Purple for number of flowers per plant, individual flower weight and flower yield per plant.

China aster (Callistephus chinensis L. Nees.) is one of the important flower crop in India. It belongs to the family Asteraceae is native to China. Phyllody disease in China aster was first reported during 1986 from Bengaluru, India and known to be transmitted by Orosius albicinctus. The disease was characterized by chlorosis, upright growth, small leaf, short internode, stunting, profuse vegetative growth and phyllody (transformation of floral organs into leaf-like structures).

The present study was conducted to evaluate genetic variability in F2 population of cross Arka Archana × AAC-1 in China aster at the College of Horticulture, Mudigere during 2017-18. The phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation for all the traits. High (>20 %) phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation(GCV) was recorded for number of branches per plant, plant spread East-West, number of flowers per plant, disc diameter, individual flower weight and flower yield per plant.
