Candida glabrata

Trans-Cinnamaldehyde, an α, β-unsaturated aromatic aldehyde, was a derivative of Cinnamonnum obtusifolium - Lauraceae; its bioavailability allows it to be used in the treatment of fungal infections as Candida species causing opportunistic fungal infections are common today. Antibiotic resistance in fungi is often due to their ability to form biofilm.

Several novel thiazolylpyrazoline derivatives were synthesized by reacting substituted 3,5-diaryl-1-thiocarbamoyl-2-pyrazolines with phenacylbromides. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and MS spectral data.

We investigated the radical addition of 4-hydroxycoumarin (1a) and 4-hydroxyquinoline (1b) with conjugated dienes (2a–f) mediated by cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) resulting in ethenyl substituted 2,3-dihydrofurocoumarin (3a–f) and 3,5-dihydrofuroquinoline (3g, 3h) compounds in moderate to good yields. All compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods (IR, MS, and 1 H and 13 C NMR) and microanalysis. Antifungal activities of these compounds were investigated against the fungi Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. krusei, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, and Aspergillus fumigatus.

Nduiyi is a traditional amylolytic starter used to produce sweet-sour alcoholic beverage, called Nduijao by Jeme Naga in Dima Hasao (formerly, North Cachar Hills) district of Assam. The aim of this study was to examine the Yeast flora present in Nduiyi collected from Dima Hasao district of Assam. Total 4 samples of Nduiyi was collected from Jeme Naga villages of the Hill district. Based on cell morphology and Phenotypic characterization isolates were identified as Candida glabrata and Saccharomyces cerevisae.

A total of 100 isolates of candida species were recovered from various clinical samples. C. albicans was the most common isolated species (42%) followed by C. krusei (17%) C. tropicalis (15%) C. parapsilosis (13%) C. famata (8%) C. glabrata (4%) and Cryptococcus species (1%). Non albicans Candida were isolated at a higher rate (58%) than C. albicans. Most of the Candida isolate were susceptible to Amphotericin (81%) followed by Nystastin (79%) and Miconazole (58%). Fluconazole was least effective with 79% resistant.

This study was undertaken to find out incidence of Candidiasis, their species identification and susceptibility of azole derivatives. In 6 months period, total 43 Candida spp. were isolated from various clinical samples, among which C. albicans (46.5%), C. tropicalis (24.5%), C. glabrata (23.4%) and C. krusie (4.6%).Susceptibility to Ketoconazole (KT), Fluconazole (FLC) and Itraconazole (IT) were detected.

Candida species are unusual cause of urinary tract infections in healthy individuals, but common in hospital setting or among patients with predisposing factors. The isolation of Candida from urine is challenging both for clinician and microbiologist as to whether the candiduria represents colonization or urinary tract infection. Species identification of Candida is also important as non albicans Candida are on rise in recent years which are more resistant to antifungal drugs and as a result morbidity and mortality is also increasing.

Candida species are a common cause of neonatal nosocomial bloodstream infections in infants and are a leading cause of infectious-related mortality in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The objective of this study was to determine the predominant organisms, antifungal sensitivity patterns and clinical risk factors in neonatal fungal blood stream infection cases (BSI) admitted to our hospital. This is a retrospective study of all neonatal fungal BSI cases between May 2018 and October 2018. Fungal sepsis was found in 25/210 (11.9%) of cases.

Rỉ đường là một trong những nguồn nguyên liệu chính trong công nghiệp sản xuất ethanol sinh học. Ứng dụng nấm men chịu nhiệt trong lên men ethanol là hướng đi có tiềm năng với nhiều lợi ích, đặc biệt đối với các nước có khí hậu nhiệt đới như Việt Nam. Nghiên cứu nhằm mục đích tuyển chọn nấm men chịu nhiệt có hoạt tính lên men tốt và ứng dụng trong sản xuất ethanol từ rỉ đường ở nhiệt độ cao. Kết quả tuyển chọn được 6 chủng nấm men (Y8, Y80, Y81, YVN7, YVN8 và YVN12) có khả năng lên men từ rỉ đường 20o Brix ở 37o C trong 5 ngày, với hàm lượng ethanol thu được trong khoảng 5,54-6,40% (v/v).
