Candidemia is one of the most common nosocomial bloodstream infections in the United States, causing significant morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, but the breadth of the host response to Candida infections in human patients remains poorly defined.

Trans-Cinnamaldehyde, an α, β-unsaturated aromatic aldehyde, was a derivative of Cinnamonnum obtusifolium - Lauraceae; its bioavailability allows it to be used in the treatment of fungal infections as Candida species causing opportunistic fungal infections are common today. Antibiotic resistance in fungi is often due to their ability to form biofilm.

Difficulties in the treatment of Candida spp. invasive infections are usually related to the formation of biofilms. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of molecular weight (MW) of chitosan (using high (HMW), medium (MMW) and low (LMW) molecular weight chitosan) on Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis and Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto.

Mortality among critically ill patients with candidemia is very high. We sought to determine whether the choice of initial antifungal therapy is associated with survival among these patients, using need for mechanical ventilatory support as a marker of critical illness.

The aim of our study is to test procalcitonin (PCT) as surrogate marker of identification of Candida spp. by blood culture (BC) and real-time-polymerase chain reaction (PCR), whether alone or in association with bacteria, in septic patients. Methods: We performed a single-centre retrospective study. We reviewed the clinical charts of patients with a diagnosis of severe sepsis or septic shock treated at our general intensive care unit from March 2009 to March 2013.

Adenosine-to-Inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing is catalyzed by the adenosine deaminase acting on RNA (ADAR) family of enzymes, which induces alterations in mRNA sequence. It has been shown that A-to-I RNA editing events are of significance in the cell’s innate immunity and cellular response to viral infections. However, whether RNA editing plays a role in cellular response to microorganism/fungi infection has not been determined.

Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogen which is responsible for widespread nosocomial infections. It encompasses a fungus specific serine/threonine protein phosphatase gene, CaPPZ1 that is involved in cation transport, cell wall integrity, oxidative stress response, morphological transition, and virulence according to the phenotypes of the cappz1 deletion mutant.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different pretreatment methods on the microbial yield from infectious tissues. Methods: Strains of Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Escherichia coli (EC) and Candida albicans (CA) were used to construct single-surface, full-surface, and internal infection models in sterile pork tissue.

In India, oilseed Brassica are grown over an area of about 6.3 million hectares with an annual production of 7.92 million tones with an average yield of 1304 kg/ha whereas in Rajasthan it was still 1422kg/ha. The severe attack of many diseases not only deteriorates the quality of the seed, but also reduces the oil content considerably. Among the diseases, white rust caused by Albugo candida (Pers. Ex Hook) O. Kuntze, is an important disease of a wide variety of Brassica crops. Its infection causes disfiguring white pustules on leaves, flowers stems and pod leading to yield losses.

Hospital-acquired infection (HAI) is a growing problem all around the world particularly for countries with aging and high-density population such as Vietnam. In this review, we summarized the current status of HAIs in Vietnam regarding types of infection, rates of infection, hospital-stay duration and cost of treatment, and provided an overview with suggestions on strategies in combating these infections especially in Vietnamese settings. From quite dispersed and varied data reported in English and Vietnamese, we have seen HAI rates of less than 10%.

Hospital acquired Candida infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality especially in critically ill and immunocompromised patients. Therefore, an accurate and early identification is necessary for the management of patients. The aim of our study was rapid identification of Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility testing (AST) by VITEK 2 system in hospital acquired fungal infections.

In this series observation were also made on impact of disease on growth and development of a plant internally and externally. Small creamy white spot on cotyledons can be seen. Downy growth of fungus appears on leaves, stem and on stage heads formed by white rust pathogen, Albugo candida. Mixed infection of white rust and downy mildew is common on stage heads.
