This study evaluates the relationship between foreign direct investment, current account, and economic growth in Vietnam. Using the VECM method, the research results have shown that FDI and current accounts positively affect Vietnam’s economic growth in both the short and long term. The novelty of this paper is that the authors have done the robustness test through the Bayesian stability test. Based on research results, we propose policy implications to minimize the negative effects of FDI inflows and make the most of this capital source for Vietnam's sustainable economic development.

Ebook "EU enlargement and its macroeconomic effects in Eastern Europe: Currencies, prices, investment and competitiveness" offers a detailed study of the macroeconomic and structural adjustment burden. It envisages a real currency appreciation stemming from price convergence, capital inflows and weak structural change. The widespread belief that an Eastern enlargement of the Union would be overwhelmingly to the detriment of the present EU (budgetary costs, locational decisions, trade deficits) is rejected.

In the context of integration, in addition to increasing foreign capital inflows, Vietnamese enterprises are becoming more and more interested in outward foreign direct investment activities. This research expands the Investment Development Path model to assess the influence of some macroeconomic factors (GNI per capita, the proportion of expenditure on science and technology, FDI flows, USD to VND exchange rate, total import-export turnover) on Vietnamese enterprises’ outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) flows.

Three decades after its doi moi (renovation) and getting the economy open to the world, Vietnam’s development has struck with enormous external capital flows, mainly in the form of Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The country has turned up to be a leading destination country for foreign capital, becoming the second largest ODA recipient while maintaining a strong and stable FDI inflow throughout that time.

This paper studies the impact of Japanese official development assistance (ODA) on Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into Vietnam between 1992 and 2018. The impact of Japanese ODA is examined using the two-stage least squares method. The regression results provide evidence of a positive impact of ODA on FDI inflows, not only by direct channels but also by indirect channels through improving the human capital base.

This study examined the stimulation of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows through constant electricity power supply for economic growth in Nigeria, by engaging time series data sourced from the world development indicators (WDI) for the period 1986-2017 and employed the Autoregressive distribution lag econometric approach to co-integration. The gross domestic product growth rate per capita was the proxy for economic growth and the dependent variable, while the independent variables include FDI, labour force participation rate, gross fixed capital formation and electricity power supply.

Vietnam is experiencing a rising inflation and volatility in asset markets in recent years. The main reason for this is a large inflow of foreign exchange relative to economic size, which generates liquidity surplus, economic overheating and accumulation of international reserves. Exchange overvaluation is also occurring but it is partly offset by the falling US dollar to which the Vietnamese Dong is almost pegged. This type of economic boom is commonly observed in capital-receiving countries around the world.

This paper focuses on the question of whether economic growth was constrained by Vietnam’s balance of payments during the 1990-2004 period, by using the model developed by Thirlwall. Based on quarterly and annual data from the period, we found that economic growth was indeed constrained by the country’s balance of payments, although deficits in the trade and current account were partly relieved by external inflows of capital such as foreign direct investment, official development assistance, and debt.
