Defining hidden genetic diversity within species is of great significance when attempting to maintain the evolutionary potential of natural populations and conduct appropriate management. Our hypothesis is that isolated (and eventually small) wild animal populations hide unexpected genetic diversity due to their maintenance of ancient polymorphisms or introgressions.

Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common parasitic infections in both humans and animals. It is a frequent cause of abortion and stillbirth in intermediate hosts, especially sheep and goats but rarely causes fatal clinical form in adult animals.

Molecular regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis plays an essential role in the fine tuning of seasonal estrus in Capra hircus. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are emerging as key regulators in sexual development and mammalian reproduction. In order to identify ncRNAs and to assess their expression patterns, along the HPG axis, we sequenced ncRNA libraries from hypothalamus, pituitary and ovary of three goats.

Long intergenic noncoding RNAs (lincRNAs) have been recognized in recent years as key regulators of biological processes. However, lincRNAs in goat remain poorly characterized both across various tissues and during different developmental stages in goat (Capra hircus).

Cashmere is a keratinized product derived from the secondary hair follicles (SHFs) of cashmere goat skins. The cashmere fiber stops growing following the transition from the actively proliferating anagen stage to the apoptosis-driven catagen stage. However, little is known regarding the molecular mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of apoptosis in SHFs, especially as pertains to the role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) and their interactions with other molecules.

During hair growth, cortical cells emerging from the proliferative follicle bulb rapidly undergo a differentiation program and synthesize large amounts of hair keratin proteins. In this process, HOXC13 is one critical regulatory factor, proved by the hair defects in HOXC13 mutant mice and HOXC13 mutant patients. However, inconsistent conclusions were drawn from previous researches regarding the regulation of HOXC13 on different keratins. Whether HOXC13 has extensive and unified regulatory role on these numerous keratins is unclear.

In quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) experiments, accurate and reliable target gene expression results are dependent on optimal amplification of house-keeping genes (HKGs). RNA-seq technology offers a novel approach to detect new HKGs with improved stability.

Myostatin (MSTN) encodes a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass that might have applications for promoting muscle growth in livestock. In this study, we aimed to test whether targeted MSTN editing, mediated by transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs), is a viable approach to create myostatin-modified goats (Capra hircus).

The present study was conducted on the 24 goat foeti of either sex ranging from 42 days to full term gestation. In all the structural components (Tubules cells, bud cells, islets cells, acinar cells, pancreatic duct cells, mesenchymal cells, stromal tissue and wall of blood vessels) of foetal goat pancreas showed positive reaction for glycogen, mucopolysacharides, acid mucopolysacharides and lipids in mid and late prenatal period except in the stromal tissue where lipids were almost absent.

The present study was conducted on the 24 goat foeti of either sex ranging from 42 days to full term gestation. In all goat foeti the pancreas lied in the abdominal cavity partly on right and partly on left side of median plane. Left and right lobes were creamy white in color and were fused to form an irregularly quadrilateral mass. From 53 days onwards the topographic location of foetal pancreas was changed in relation to adjacent organs. The biometric parameters viz: weight, length and width of the pancreas were significantly increased with the advancement of foetal age.

The present study was conducted on the 24 goat foeti of either sex ranging from 42 days to full term of gestation. The material was divided into early prenatal (0 to 50 days), mid prenatal (51 to 100 days) and late prenatal (101 to till term) periods. In all goat foetuses the pancreas lied in the abdominal cavity partly on right and partly on left side of median plane. Tissue processing was done with routine histological technique. Up to 59 days gestation the reticular fibers, collagen fibers and elastic fibers were absent in foetal goat pancreas.

Scanning electron micrographic observations of renal arteries of goat and pig which revealed a thin tunica intima enveloped by packed layer of smooth muscle cells in media in both species. Endothelium was wavy in outline on internal aspect of renal arteries in goats and pigs. It presented cushion like foldings which were aligned across the longitudinal axis of the artery. Outer parts of tunica media were anchored by fine collagen fibrils and elastic fibers to the collagen tissue in adventitia. In case of pig, tunica adventitia of renal arteries was relatively thicker than that of the goat.

Histological features of renal arteries of goat revealed a typical muscular artery structure with three layers within outwards viz., tunica intima, media and adventitia. Abundant subendothelial connective tissue was limited by clear undulating internal elastic membrane. Tunica media in all three renal arterial segments i.e., proximal, middle and distal from aorta to the renal hilus was thicker. More than thirty rows of smooth muscle cells were arranged in circular fashion in tunica media. Their outer boundary was limited by fragmented thin wavy outer elastic membrane.

The domestic goat Capra hircus is one of the oldest domesticated farm animals. It provides multiple products like meat (chevon), milk, skin, fiber and manure. They survive efficiently on available thorny shrubs and trees in adverse harsh environment in low fertile lands where no other crops can be grown. In India, goats are kept as a source of livelihood and additional income as well as insurance against natural or manmade disasters. The constraints have been assessed on the basis of interview schedule conducted on 125 farmers in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

A study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of nano zinc (NZn) as feed supplementation on haematological and blood biochemical profiles in goats (Capra hircus). NZn was synthesized by from 0.45 M aqueous solution of zinc nitrate [Zn(NO3)2.6H2O] and 0.9 M aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The particle size thus obtained was 74 nm and later it was confirmed to be zinc by using TEM-EDAX.
