Capture ELISA tests

The objective of the present study is 1. To study the changing laboratory profiles in dengue viral infections. 2. To correlate these laboratory tests during the evolution of dengue fever and in assessing severity of disease. 3. To study the association of these profiles in remission of the disease. 4. And also to study factors involved in predicting prognosis.

Dengue Fever is a Flaviviral infection transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes. It is a major public health issue in tropical and subtropical countries. Dengue virus is having four serotypes. It may progress to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, which can lead to Dengue Shock Syndrome and death. The study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology. K S. Hegde Medical Academy with the blood samples collected from the patients with clinical diagnoses of Dengue without any age or gender restriction. The samples were collected from the period of October 2015 to April 2017.

Dengue fever is an arthropod borne viral disease present as either a non-specific illness, dengue fever (DF) or DHF, DSS leading to hospitalization or death. In routine laboratories diagnosis is mainly based on the detection of dengue antigens (NS1) or antibodies (IgM and IgG) by ELISA kits. Objectives of the study are to find out the seropositivity of dengue virus infection in patients admitted in a tertiary care hospital and to study the clinical presentation of dengue in serologically diagnosed cases. There is high mortality associated with severe dengue infection so we conducted study to predict various factors indicating severity of dengue infection. As infection with Pasteurella multocida is common in cattle and buffalo, a monoclonal antibody based sandwich ELISA kit was developed for its rapid and easy detection. The test was optimized and standardized so that maximum concordance could be maintained with the standard procedures of hemorrhagic septicemia diagnosis recommended by the WHO expert committee. HS-1, a Pasteurella multocida type B specific monoclonal antibody developed in mice was used as tracing antibody to capture P. multocida serotype B:2 in a sandwich ELISA.

Dengue is a mosquito borne viral disease (Priyadarshini et al., 2016). It belongs to the family of Flavivirus. It is transmitted mainly by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito. Outbreaks are due to the four serotypes DEN1, DEN2, DEN3, DEN4. Increasing incidence and repeated outbreaks turns this disease as a serious public health problem (Barrera et al., 2002). Urbanization, improper water management and the vector population are the main causes for the spread of the disease. Dengue is a leading causes of hospitalization and death among children (Mistry et al., 2013).
