Efficacy of bio - agents and botanical extracts against anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) of black gram (Vigna mungo L.)

An experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2017-2018 at the Central Research Farm of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, to evaluate the efficacy of bio-agents and botanical extracts against anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) of black gram (Vigna mungo L.) both in vitro and in vivo. In vitro studies showed significant difference in the inhibition per cent of mycelial growth of the pathogen among all the treatments.

Evaluation of fungicides against Macrophomina phaseolina inciting root rot of sesame

Six fungicides viz., Tebuconazole + Trifloxystrobin 75 WG (Nativo), Hexaconazole 5% + Captan 70 % WP (Taqat), Carboxin 37.5% + Thiram 37.5% WP (Vitavax power), Iprovalicarb 5.5% + Propineb 61.25%WP (Melody duo), Carbendazim 50WP (Hycarb), Mancozeb 63% W.P. + Carbendazim 12% WP (Top too) were evaluated in vitro to test their efficacy against Macrophomina phaseolina by poisoned food technique. Results revealed that all the fungicides were effective in inhibiting mycelial growth of M. phaseolina to varying degrees.

Evaluation of fungicides and biocontrol agents against neopestalotiopsis clavispora causing leaf blight of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.)

A leaf blight disease caused by Neopestalotiopsis clavispora is a major problem in various strawberry growing areas causing mild to severe damage to plants. The present investigation was carried out to find out an effective management strategy against the disease using fungicides and biocontrol agents. Among the nine fungicides tested in vitro, carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% (Saaf), cymoxanil 8% + mancozeb 64% (Curzate M8), copper hydroxide 77WP (Kocide), copper oxychloride 50WP (Fytolan), propineb 70WP (Antracol) and Bordeaux Mixture showed cent per cent inhibition of the fungus.

Studies on management of leaf spot disease of mulberry (Morus spp.) through the use of botanicals

A study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of ten plant extracts against Phleospora maculans (Bereng) Allesch. both by inhibition zone technique and conidial germination technique on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium each at three different concentrations viz. 5 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent with carbendazim 50WP (0.02%) as control. Among botanicals tested, the extract of Allium sativum (Garlic) has shown maximum inhibition of mycelial growth (66.45mm2 ), whereas, minimum inhibition was recorded in Morus alba (12.87mm2 ) irrespective of concentrations.
