Carbolic acid

Phenols are generated in the wastewater of industrial processes. Phenol is extremely poisonous when entering the human body through the mouth. This study was conducted to determine the parameters of activated charcoal from coconut charcoal produced by Tam Dinh-Phu Yen Company and the ability of coconut charcoal in wastewater containing phenol.

Sputum samples were fi rst classifi ed according to their macroscopic aspect in the laboratory. Salivary samples were immediately removed and a new sample was requested. The time between sputum collection and analysis was recorded. A 20–30 mm smear was made on a new slide with a wooden applicator. After heat fi xation, hot Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) staining was performed: carbol fuchsin 0.3%, slow heating until steaming, rinsing after 5 min, destaining with 25% sulfuric acid, rinsing, counterstaining with methylene blue 0.3% for 1 min, rinsing and drying.

The diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis can be made by the detection of acid fast bacilli by direct microscopy, using carbol fuchsin stain and/or fluorochrome stain. Microscopy is a rapid method but lacks sufficient sensitivity and does not distinguish between different species of mycobacteria. The sensitivity of microscopy is often not more than 25-40% as compared to culture, but under ideal conditions, it is possible to achieve a rate of 60-70%.
