The current guidelines have discouraged the routine use of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) in cardiogenic shock complicating acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Since then, the trend of IABP utilization in ACS has been declining.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be used as a bridge to medical therapy in decompensated right heart failure due to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). A middle-aged man with previously undiagnosed pulmonary hypertension was successfully bridged to intravenous prostanoid therapy with venoarterial ECMO support after presenting with cardiogenic shock and hypoxemic respiratory failure.

Acute, perioperative myocardial infarction (MI) from acute left internal mammary artery (LIMA) to left anterior descending (LAD) graft failure immediately following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is associated with significantly increased in-hospital mortality. The leading etiology of such acute graft failure is acute thrombosis, dissection, spasm, anastomosis failure or no-reflow phenomenon.

Coronary sinus thrombosis (CST) is a rare but life-threatening condition that involves clot formation within the vessel responsible for draining all of the venous blood from the myocardium itself. The coronary sinus is situated in the right atrium approximately half-way between the tricuspid value and the inferior vena cava.

The use of mechanical support devices such as the Impella CP (Abiomed, Danvers, MA) is a growing form of treatment for patients with cardiogenic shock (CS). Despite the increase in usage, there remains a dearth in literature regarding potential complications.

Shock is the clinical presentation of circulatory failure with impaired perfusion that results in inadequate cellular oxygen utilization. Treatment requires properly identifying the type of shock that is impacting the patient (obstructive, distributive, cardiogenic, and/or hypovolemic).

The electrocardiogram has a critical role in the diagnosis and risk assessment of patients presenting with chest pain in the emergency ward. Recognizing the electrocardiogram of de Winter as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction equivalent in cases with suspected acute infarction is very important.

The insertion of Ventricular Assist Devices is a common strategy for cardiovascular support in patients with refractory cardiogenic shock. This study sought to determine the impact of ventricular assist devices on the dynamic relationship between arterial blood pressure and cerebral blood flow velocity.

ECMO support is a final treatment modality for patients in the refractory cardiogenic arrest and postcardiotomy cardiogenic shock with an utmost importance. Eventhough it is linked to high mortality, its usage gains popularity worldwide. We assessed the fluctuation of lactate levels and the clearance of lactate during the ECMO therapy and its prognostic role on mortality.

Weaning post-cardiac surgery patients from mechanical ventilation (MV) poses a big challenge to these patients. Optimized left ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC) may be crucial for reducing the MV duration of these patients. However, there is no research exploring the relationship between VAC and the duration of MV. We performed this study to investigate the relationship between left ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC) and prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV) in severe post-cardiac surgery patients.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is often used in critical patients with severe myocardial failure. However, the mortality rate of patients on ECMO is often high. Recent studies have suggested that endothelial activation with subsequent vascular barrier breakdown is a critical pathogenic mechanism of organ damage and is related to the outcome of critical illness.
